The Main Drain is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season seven and is the fourth episode of the Legends of Bikini Bottom special.

Summary

SpongeBob and Patrick seek out a legendary drain that once destroyed Bikini Bottom.

Why It Went Down the Drain

  1. The premise is unoriginal. It's another rehash of "Hooky" from Season 1.
  2. So much of the episode is wasted on filler. Most of it is just SpongeBob and Patrick finding the Main Drain.
  3. In fact, the episode doesn't even get to the point early on, and instead wastes time on SpongeBob's duties, which are seen all the time.
  4. Furthermore, what does pulling the sink drain plug have to do with the drain plug that's supposedly the apocalyptic one?
  5. The journey is only a short period of the episode since most of it already wastes time with talking to Mr. Krabs, Plankton, and Old Man Jenkins.
  6. Mr. Krabs and Plankton explain that they pulled the drain plug before, except there's a problem to their story.
    • So how are they still alive? If the plug was pulled, then everyone in the sea would've died.
  7. Bad, cliched, and copout ending: Patrick pulls the drain plug causing everyone to go down the drain... and it's revealed that it was a bedtime story to Patrick, making this episode pointless.
    • This only makes the plot less sensible, according to MoBrosStudios.
  8. Patrick acts like a jerk, trying to convince SpongeBob to pull the Main Drain to prove it is real, even at the risk of destroying Bikini Bottom.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. There isn't anything nasty in the Main Drain thankfully.
  2. The premise of the episode is not bad.

Reception

  • Although not one of the worst of the Legends of the Bikini Bottom episodes, The Main Drain is criticized for filler and the random ending.
  • Ranked 19th on the top 20 worst SpongeBob episodes fan edition list from MoBrosStudios.
