Trenchbillies is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season seven and is the fifth episode of the Legends of Bikini Bottom special.
Summary
SpongeBob and Patrick are held prisoners by a backward gang.
Why It's A Redneck
- It's another example of why Legends of Bikini Bottom was a bad rating trap.
- The plot itself rips off "Rock Bottom" and "Plankton's Army" because it's another story about SpongeBob and Patrick winding up lost in a city deep at the bottom of the seabed.
- The trenchbillies look hideous and are some of the worst-looking characters, although Aaron Springer made the art style of those characters.
- The part where SpongeBob and Patrick land on each other's faces and their teeth come out is weird and painful to watch.
- The episode is full of redneck stereotypes, most of which are generic.
- Considering that the trenchbillies are in an isolated place, it would not be out of the realm to assume that they're committing incest, which is extremely taboo, illegal, and inappropriate for a kids' show.
- Bad and stupid ending: Mr. Krabs ends up being forced to marry Ma Angler.
Redeeming Qualities
- The trenchbillies are somewhat funny.
- The dueling banjos were the highlight of the episode.
- "Well, Patrick, even though you won, it looks like he was the real star."
- Despite what's mentioned in WISB#5, at least there's no evidence or insinuation by any of the characters.
- SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs are all likable in this episode.
- Mr. Krabs being forced to marry Ma Angler can be seen as non-consensual despite many of his evil deeds.
Reception
- IMDB rated 5.4/10 on their site.
- The fan edition version of MoBrosStudios worst episodes ranked this as the 11th worst episode.
