The Mane Event (The Powerpuff Girls, 1998) is the second half of the 1st episode of Season 3 of The Powerpuff Girls (1998).

Why It's Cruel

  1. Everyone laughs at Blossom because of her hair, even the Monster, the Professor, and the Narrator.
  2. Bubbles, Buttercup, & the citizens of Townsville show no remorse to Blossom when she cries, as when the leader cries running home, they continue laughing.
  3. Goof: In the opening, the girls PJs have long sleeves and the Pjs of the PPGs never had them.
  4. Bubbles & Buttercup are at their absolute worst in this episode, as they butchered Blossom's nice curly hair, and when she tells them to go fight crime, they keep laughing at her.
    • Bubbles and Buttercup are also completely out of character in this episode since Bubbles is known to be a very nice girl yet she participates in mutilating Blossom’s hair without remorse. Buttercup can be a jerk at times too but not to this extent.
  5. The Professor is just pointless in this episode, because he tells Blossom that he needs to go fight that monster, which causes the leader to go fight the monster, yet he still laughs at her.
  6. While Bubbles, Buttercup, & the Monster get comeuppance in this episode, the Citizens of Townsville nor the Professor never get comeuppance for what they did to Blossom, and they get off scot-free.
  7. While the ending was good, it was kinda mean spirited towards Bubbles & Buttercup.
  8. Plot hole: How come the girls didn't fight the monster nor the monster was destroying Townsville when everyone was laughing at Blossom?

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Blossom teaches Bubbles & Buttercup a lesson by butchering their hairs with her laser eyes, and starts laughing at them, which is what they deserved.
    • In fact, in the ending, Bubbles and Buttercup even got their comeuppances as well.
  2. Blossom is the only likable character in this episode, as we do sympathize her for being poorly treated.
  3. To be fair, Bubbles and Buttercup didn't purposely ruin Blossom's hair since they were trying their best.

Reception

  • The episode received mixed to negative reviews, mainly due to everyone except Blossom's behavior, however, it has a 7/10 on IMDb, along with Fallen Arches.
