The Marvels is a 2023 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics that stars Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel. It is the sequel to the film Captain Marvel (2019), a continuation of the television miniseries Ms. Marvel (2022), and the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is produced by Marvel Studios and released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Plot

Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, has recovered her identity from the tyrant Kree and took revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. However, unanticipated repercussions force her to bear the weight of a destabilized universe. When her responsibilities take her to an anomalous portal connected to a Kree revolutionary, her powers merge with those of two other superheroes to form the Marvels.

Bad Qualities

  1. The attempts at heartwarming moments and humor are mostly poor.
  2. Most of the actors didn’t do that well in the film; there are some scenes that are supposed to be tense, but many of the characters underact heavily.
  3. There isn’t enough character development and backstory for many of the characters. Even Captain Marvel the protagonist is still as poorly written as she is in the previous movie. And plus, you have to watch Disney+ shows to keep up with the plot, which is already bad enough.
  4. Bad editing: the scenes feel very disjointed, and it’s very clear that there are scenes that have been edited out.
  5. Too many flashbacks from past movies, which is pretty stupid considering the movie's budget is $300M. Where did all the money go when making the movie?
  6. The running gag with the cats, or Flerkens in this case, will get old very fast.
  7. The villain possibly the worst MCU villain ever and her storyline is nonexistent at this point.
  8. Most of the plot is all over the place, and it feels like a first draft.
  9. It can feel a bit too wacky at times.
  10. The infamous “Use black girl magic.” Line.

Good Qualities

  1. At least Kamala Khan and her family are still great characters.
  2. Monica Rambeau looks really great in this film.
  3. The action and fighting sequences are good.
  4. Despite the running gag getting old quickly, at least Goose, the Flerken, is a cute and nice character.
  5. Samuel Jackson did well after this disastrous disappointment of a series known as Secret Invasion.
  6. The special effects are beautiful as to be expected from a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.
