Why It's A Dream
- The graphics are absolutely gorgeous, looking exactly like the 2021 series, and the graphics are very colorful and detailled, the characters models are the best exemples and are an improvement over their models in Prisoner of the Green Stones, which looked okay but not as great.
- Solid, responsive controls.
- Fun gameplay that is similar to Super Mario 3D World, and while it isn't as good as that game, it still had lot of things going for it, such as new gameplay mechanics and a more action focused gameplay.
- The plot is well done and is similar to that of The Smurfs Nightmare, a 1997 game released for the Game Boy and Game Boy Color, which had a similar premise but that game was about nightmare, instead here it is about dreams of the smurfs and they are all very fun to explore.
- Amazing soundtrack that is well composed and fit the game tone, also it can be very epic at times such as for the boss fights.
- The boss fights are all fun, unique and stand out as some of the best bosses in a Smurfs game, because not only they are challenging but also they take advantages of being huge and that the smurfs are very small, which give huge bosses and they are very fun overall.
- Ton of varied sequences, in which sometime it had stealth sections, full on platforming and sometime is more focused on actions, which make the game never repetitive at all, or at least not that repetitive.
- It is surprisingly challenging for a game published by Microids, especially with the bosses or the stealth sections in one of the level.
- But even then, the game difficulty for the most parts is balanced, since it is neither too hard nor too easy.
- Satistying combat that's while simple, is very fun and well programmed, but howewer the combat is only with weapons and not punch unfortunately.
- Many references to the show, such as Evil Smurfette being a boss in this game or even the village itself, in other words, this game is very faithful to both series, especially the 2021 one.
- The puzzles are all very interesting and are fun, what make this better is that the difficulty of them is balanced, it's neither too hard nor too easy, and it can be discovered pretty easily.
Bad Qualities
- Unfortunately the game doesn't include proper voice acting, which is weird because previous games did include voice acting, such as Prisoner of the Green Stones, and that game was released in 2023.
- The game is very short, as it only last 4 hours, still it had decent number of replay values.
- The game running controls can take a bit of times to get used to, despite being great.
- At time the game can be a bit too difficult, especially when fighting some bosses that are either very long or their attacks are hard to dodge correctly.
Reception
The Smurfs Dreams received mixed to positive reviews by critics and gamers and is considered to be the best Smurfs game yet, on Metacritic it had a score of 81/100 for the PC version, 77/100 for the PS5 version, 76/100 for the Xbox Series X/S and 71/100 for the Nintendo Switch version.
