"Ce jeu est comme une espèce de punition cruelle que vous vous infligeriez ; on dirait un concentré de tout ce qu'il y a de pire dans les jeux de plateforme."
— Joueur du Grenier
Tintin in Tibet [or Tintin au Tinbet in france] is a game developed and published by Infogrames Multimedia. The SNES, Mega Drive and Game Boy versions were released in 1995, while the Game Gear and MS-DOS ports were released in 1996 and the Game Boy Color port was released in 2001 only in Europe. This is based off the TV show and comic, The Adventures of Tintin: Tintin In Tibet.
Bad Qualities
- The controls are terrible and beyond heavy. Tintin's jump is pathetic, as if he has weights hanged down on his legs. Also, the controls are beyond delayed.
- You can't jump over Children or Other People, you can only go through the foreground by pressing Down, the game never tells you any of this.
- Artificial difficulty: Everything will kill Tintin in this game, it's almost like they want to beat up Tintin for no reason without showing any mercy.
- False advertising: Tintin can be seen in the box wearing winter clothes, but in the game, his sprite is reused except he has a long sleeve shirt and a cap, which is unnatural.
- While the music in every version of the game is fine, the Mega Drive version's music sounds like an symphothy of farts, much like Doom for the 32X.
- Spotty collision detection, you can get hit by an enemy even when you don't touch it.
- Some levels have puzzle areas in which you can get bored real quick.
- Poor grasp of source material, such as The Professor, despite being in the game is not supposed to be there, despite being in the show and comic due to Haddock sleeping and having a dream, or Haddock not saying his catchphrase "A thousand millions of a thousand billions of a thousand portholes!".
- Only 3 lives and 3 passwords. In fact, lives are rare in this game.
- While the graphics and sprites are good, the object placement is questonable. How are you able to tell what's an object and what's a platform or what's a pit?
- The Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Gear ports suffer from weaker graphics than the console and PC versions.
- The cutscenes style cutscenes are too small, this can be a problem when your playing it on the SupaBoy (Hyperkin's own portable Super Nintendo) or the Sega Nomad.
- The Yeti, which was from the movie or comic, doesn't appear in sprite form in the final level, instead it's his shadow. But what doesn't make sense is that his shadow hurts you, how does a shadow of a creature or a human kill you in any sort of way?!
- No reward of beating the game or anything, it's just the Yeti watching some where and then the letter Fin comes up.
Good Qualities
- The graphics are awesome for a 1995 game, it's well smooth animated & the graphics are even gorguous if played on the Super Nintendo.
- Much like The Smurfs, the soundtrack is amazing for all versions. The Mega Drive version is the only version that doesn't include good soundtrack.
- The comic book style of cutscenes are nice, they hold the charm of the actual comic of the same thing, however they are incredibly small.
- It follows the episode from the tv show and the comic book very well, unlike some other platform games that are based off the movie.
