Titeuf (Tootuff in English) is a Franco-Swiss animated television series, adapted from the eponymous Swiss comic strip by Zep, broadcast from April 7, 2001 to October 3, 2017 on Canal J and France 3. It is also available on Apple TV in the UK.

Summary

It's all about me and my friends and how everything starts to change when you get bigger and stuff. Kids will see what me and my crew do all day, what we think about and what we talk about. We seem to make everybody laugh, but what's funny? I'm just trying to figure out life's major questions.

Good Qualities

  1. Similar to The Adventures of Tintin, The Smurfs and it's 2021 reboot, Lou!, Marsupilami (2000) and Cédric these seasons remain very faithful to the comic strip from which they are inspired.
  2. Very good flash animation for the time which remains very faithful to the style of comics, the animation also aged well, especially in season 1 & 2.
  3. Tons of iconic characters that are just like in their comic book counterparts:
    • Titeuf the main character who tries to understand how life works and from which emerges a very naive vision.
    • Manu the best friend of Titeuf very recognizable and very nice.
    • Nadia the famous love interest of Titeuf often sympathetic sometimes antipathetic.
    • Hugo another very funny friend of Titeuf.
    • Nathalie one of Nadia's friends very friendly and really appreciated by the fans.
    • And many other characters like the parents of Titeuf, Dumbo, Francois, Vomito, Jean Claude.
  4. Lot of decent/amazing episodes, such as:
    • Tootuff, That Genius
    • The Skykologist (One of the funniest episode of the whole show)
    • Yann the Yeti
    • The X-Ray Specs (although Titeuf is a pervert in this episode)
    • Thoz ’Abs’
    • The King of Cool
    • The Divorce
    • Electro Tactical (despite the bad ending)
    • The Cheating (Another one of the funniest episode of the show)
  5. Original and interesting writing, especially for a French show.
  6. Season 1 and 3 theme songs are iconic and catchy, especially from season 2 & 3, which are the most iconic.
  7. Similar to Angelo Rules he is very well known in the French community and even had memes.
  8. An excellent French dubbing with Donald Reignoux (who also did the French voices of Phineas from Phineas & Ferb or Danny from Danny Phantom) doing an excellent job dubbing Titeuf and Hugo.
  9. The 2011 film was very good and respected the series.
  10. The famous lines from Titeuf which are "C'est pô juste" and "Tchô", which are very funny to heard.
  11. The soundtrack is quite surprisingly good and catchy even for a kid show, it's also better than in the season 4 of the show.
  12. Some of the tie-in video games such as Mega Compet and Ze Gag Machine are decent.

Bad Qualities

  1. The show declined strongly during season 4 putting a lot of changes, flanderizing the characters and the art style and animation being a massive downgrade despite that the art style is still decent.
  2. Despite that the season 4 was where the show got downhill, the first 3 seasons also have problems.
    • Season 1 is a bit violent with many fight scenes and had some bad episodes.
    • Season 2 as for it takes again the defects of season 1 and moreover that lasted only 16 episodes.
    • Season 3 is the reverse of season 2 because it had a total of 158 episodes and also the animation isn't as good as the first two seasons despite still being decent.
      • It also had lot of terrible episodes that are some of the worst from the series, such as "Egg Skull".
  3. Some unfriendly and unlikable characters like Nadia (sometimes) or Marco.
  4. The show is often very mean-spirited with the main character, which was often the reason of why some bad episodes happened.
  5. Many animation errors in Season 1, although the next seasons would eventually fix that problem.
  6. Nadia's slapping Titeuf can be annoying at times.
  7. The english dub is horrible due to how abysmal the voice acting is, howewer the plots of the episodes we're not changed and still feel like the original show, unlike some other bad english dubs of some other shows.
  8. There's a handful of bad episodes like:
    • Tootuff's Tick (Who started the show on a bad note)
    • To Babe or Not to Babe
    • Summer Camp Blues
    • The fault of the guard
    • The Witch Ink Hour
    • Dirty Rotten Present
    • Train Madness
    • Snowball
    • Crappy Birthday
    • Operation Birthday Surprise
    • The teenager
    • Sticker Shock
    • The party
    • Zealous Ants
    • Return of the Great Mugul
    • Love Birdz
    • Naze of short
    • Pig Sty Stew
    • On your marks
    • Happy event !
    • Pretty Julie (Not really a bad episode but it is mostly a mediocre torture episode for Titeuf)
    • 100% Young
    • Moulinus reported missing!
    • The forgotten of the park
    • Megatrash Contest
    • Skeleton bone
    • wheels of shame
    • Diary too private
    • Yucca, yucca not
    • Horror, a little sister!
    • Hit and run
    • Smeusseu d'Amour
    • Like savages
    • Crisis
    • A furry gift
    • The sandals that make prout
    • The Girls' War
    • The Supermarket of Shame
    • Egg skull
    • The Deflate
  9. Most of the tie-in video games aren't that great, and some are even atrocious.

Reception

Although it had a mixed rating with a 5.8/10 on IMDb[1] the show was well received by fans and has a fan base it has even gained a cult following ever since.
