"WHAT THE ABSOLUTE HELL IS THIS, STOP HIRING WRITERS WITH GROSS FETISHES ON YOUR KIDS CARTOONS"

Total Eclipse of the Fart is the 15th episode of the second season of Total DramaRama.

Summary

Leshawna hatches a plan to extort the tooth fairy for money after destroying her loose tooth, but accidentally kidnaps the fart fairy instead.

Why It's an Eclipse of the Fart

  1. The first minutes of the episode is Leshawna throwing a fit after swallowing her tooth on accident.
  2. The Fart Fairy, Smelliot, appears whenever one of the children, even Courtney in a flashback, farts because it's his job to collect the farts of children by inhaling them, which is really disgusting and way too inappropriate for a kids' show. Worse, one of the flashbacks show Beth farting while [she was] jumping rope.
    • Speaking of Smelliot himself, he is also very creepy and perverted as he takes too much enjoyment in smelling 5-year-old children's farts.
  3. In one scene, Leshawna goes on an outrage just because the tooth fairy did not give her money, and it is annoying and can get on viewers' nerves.
  4. A lot of gross-out humor throughout the episode, mostly from the farting, such as Smelliot juggling balls made out of his farts in front of everyone and later making an animal balloon out of his farts, and especially that one infamous scene where Beth accidentally queefs in an attempt to revive Smelliot causing Owen and Duncan to choke.
    • In regard to the farting, the episode has way too many fart jokes. While the Total Drama franchise is no stranger to fart jokes, it pushes the jokes over to the extreme here.
  5. This episode could contest with "Germ Factory", an episode from season one, in terms of the grossest episode of Total DramaRama.
    • All in all, this episode could take the crown from "Sundae Muddy Sundae" as the franchise's most despised episode.
  6. After Smelliot is unable to wake up, the universe gets flooded with farts.
  7. After spending most of the episode lying about not farting, Leshawna can give in and let out a huge fart, reviving Smelliot.
  8. Awful and nonsensical ending: Owen lets out a very big fart, therefore destroying the world possibly meaning everyone dies in the end. The ending is also unrealistic and does not make any sense as a toddler’s farts are not capable of destroying the world.

The Only Redeeming Quality

  1. Gwen, Bridgette, and Noah, who never farted once before this episode, are absent here.

Trivia

  • The title is a reference to Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart”.
  • When birds are knocked out by the fartnado, the Wilhelm scream can be heard.
  • This episode was banned in Poland because of its heavy overabundance of fart jokes. This also applies to the Teen Titans Go! episode "Butt Atoms".
  • An episode of Total Drama that was similar to this one was made later on called “Jurassic Fart”, which was similarly criticized for its overabundance of fart jokes and indicates that the writers and showrunners refused to listen to the criticism towards “Total Eclipse of the Fart”.
  • Playa Des Losers can be seen during Leshawna's dream sequence.
  • Chef Hatchet breaks the fourth wall when he tells Duncan that he always calls the military because the animators already drew them for a previous episode.
  • Chili cheese chips giving Owen gas is a callback to "Beth and the Beanstalk", where the same thing occurs.
  • After Owen claims he needs 3 minutes and 14 seconds for the chili cheese chips to activate, it actually does take that much time in the episode.
  • This episode was skipped in the European version.
  • According to Terry McGurrin, the Total DramaRama writing room originally envisioned a "much more adorable looking/sounding fairy" before coming up with the concept of the fart fairy.
    • Furthermore, McGurrin disclosed that the show's writing team envisioned the fairy with a "cute, angelica voice" but that Rob Tinkler's "gruff cigar smoking" vocal performance changed the dialogue intent a lot.
  • Leshawna's farts flooding the building is similar to what happened to her teenage self in the Total Drama Action episode "Full Metal Drama" after she drank too much bran smoothies.
