Transformers: The Game is an action-adventure video game based on the 2007 film Transformers, developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Activision. The game closely follows the story of the film, depicting the Autobots and Decepticons' arrival on Earth following a war between them that has ravaged their home planet of Cybertron. While trying to conceal their existence from humanity, both factions search for a powerful artifact called the AllSpark, which could be used to restore Cybertron to its former glory, or to enslave Earth's population. The game features a split-campaign format, with players choosing to join either the Autobots or the Decepticons, and completing various missions for whichever faction they chose.
This page is focused to Consoles and PC version.
Good Qualities
- The idea of making open-world based on Transformers franchise is decent idea.
- It's a huge improvement to the PSP versions.
- The game can you choose your factions; either Decepticon or Autobot.
- Great graphics, even by 2007 standards.
- The gameplay, while repetitive and somehow easy, is still fun due to open-world nature.
- You can collect the energy cube and complete the sub-missions, given a replay value.
- The difficulty is pretty balanced, not too easy or not too hard.
- Each chapters has 8 areas (9 area due to cut content: The Suburbs, Inside the Dam, Military Base in Qatar or US, The Hoover Dam, The Mission City, and The Cybertron (Both Decepticons and Autobots) . These chapters has hub area that can you explore to complete the mission. After the chapters is complete, you automatically to the next area or you're restarting from this area again to complete the sub-missions.
- Tight and responsive controls.
- Great voice acting, and these voice actor is from the first movie.
- Suprisingly, this game is faithful to the movie, despite some of them are missing.
- There's a mod called "Transformers: The Game 2.0". This mods has more features, such as Characters selection, adding new maps, new gameplay, new missions and more cutscenes, and it's more faithful to the movie counterparts, as well for some bug fixes.
Bad Qualities
- While the game is open-world, the game is really linear, as you're complete the mission, as this game is uses the gimmicky point a to point b type.
- Some missions is really hard, such as in Mission City Chapter 3, where you fight against 2 Decepticons and it's nearly impossible to beat.
- While the control is tight and responsive for PS2/3, Xbox 360 and PC, The Wii version is using Wii Remote with Nunchuk, and as a result, this controls is nearly unresponsive.
- The driving controls is clunky.
- While the game is faithful to the movie counterparts, some of them are missing, such as fighting against Bonecrusher.
- The Cybertron area is just boring, as it's just a gauntlet mode for this.
- The map is a little bit smaller compared to the DS versions.
- The game is short, lasting for only 3 hours long.
