Ty the Tasmanian Tiger is a platform game developed by Krome Studios and published by Electronic Arts in 2002.
A HD remake of the game was developed and published by Krome Studios on Steam Early Access before receiving a full release on December 13, 2016.
A port for Nintendo Switch was funded via Kickstarter.
Why It's A Ripper
- The hub is divided into multiple zones, each with three portals which lead to a Level.
- Each level contains multiple tasks which must be completed in order to finish a level, although some are optional.
- Ty has two boomerangs as his main weapon.
- Equip many different pairs of boomerangs, each with different attributes (elemental, explosive, technorangs etc).
- Collect multiple items on every level, which can be used to access new worlds, create new boomerangs, etc.
- Excellent graphics.
- Smooth controls on both land and underwater.
- Easy to mild difficulty, but provides a good challenge.
- The HD remake makes the models and the environments look smoother while supporting widescreen format and being compatible with almost every controller.
Bad Qualities
- Ty's design looks awkward because sometimes it seems like he has two mouths.
- Some levels are too big and tedious to collect everything on.
- There's a game-breaking glitch that might cause Boss Fights to be inaccessible if you enter a level hub earlier than you're supposed to, leaving you unable to 100% complete the game. This most commonly happens if you use the "All Boomerangs unlocked" cheat code. In fact, You can beat the game in under '''EIGHT''' minutes if you use this cheat (thankfully, this was fixed in the HD remake).
Reception
Ty the Tasmanian Tiger received positive reviews from critics upon its release. Matthew Gallant of GameSpot concluded that the game is "great for younger players and can provide a satisfying experience for teens and adults as long as they don't mind their replay value coming from finding every last collectible in the game."
