Ultraseven (ウルトラセブン, Urutorasebun) is the third entry of the Ultraman Series, created by Tsuburaya Productions. Contrasting Ultraman before it with its various monsters, Ultraseven expands much more on the concepts of alien invasions and militarism. Ultraseven was originally conceived to be a separate entry to Ultraman until Return of Ultraman later retconned the two continuities into one.
This is the last Eiji Tsuburaya works for Ultra series before he died in 1970.
Synopsis
In the not-too-distant future, the Earth finds itself constantly under attack from extraterrestrial threats. To combat them, the Terrestrial Defense Force establishes the Ultra Guard, a team of six elite members who utilize high-tech vehicles and weaponry. Joining their fight is the mysterious Dan Moroboshi who is secretly an alien from the Land of Light in Nebula M78, Ultraseven.
Why It's Still Ultra
- Unlike the first series, this series focusing to more Aliens, either for Invasion or Manipulation to the human and Earth, but it still has a Kaiju on this series.
- Unlike the previous ones, this one is more darker tone story. The audience is slightly increased from kids to more older audiences. Some of the aliens have a tragic backstory, and some scenes can be brutal to watch.
- Some episodes are good for a kids audience, making thing less scary.
- Ultraseven doesn't have a human host, instead it's disguised as humans, it's disguising as Dan Moboroshi.
- This Dan Moboroshi actor is so iconic as it also appears in the Numerous Ultra series, including the Ultraman Leo are disguising as Captain.
- Dan has a companion Kaiju, Argiras, Miclas, and Windom. This kaiju are good guys to take Kaiju/Aliens for sometimes.
- The Ultra Garison Member is now more seriously than SSSP, it's still investigate certain places, whether there's Alien has been manipulated you, or invaded you.
- The special effects is vastly improvements, it's still has error here and there, but mostly, there's not a single error whatsoever.
- The design of the Ultraseven is great and unique, and unlike all of the Ultraman, this Ultraseven doesn't have a Color Timer, instead, the green things as replacement.
- The green things as energy, and when Ultraseven needed to battle, he needs battling between to the sun, he gets a better performing. Some battle are blocked either by stormy weather or night. It difficult to defeat the Kaiju/Aliens, but Ultraseven still has finisher as fast he can.
- Ultraseven has more abilities than other Ultras. The biggest difference is Ultraseven can change the size, whether Human, Micro, or Giant size first, it's up to Ultraseven to battling against Kaiju and Aliens at the perfect size and perfect timing.
- It still has a ray technique, but the most important technique is the Eye Slugger. This things is act like a weapon, whether to kill certain Kaiju/Alien to the pieces or as a knife to cut the certain objects.
- Like Ultraman Zero, Ultraseven transformation are different from many Ultra series, and this transformation sequence is very memorable; You put the glasses to the eye, and then, it will become either Giant size first or Human size first.
- Like the previous series, this kaiju/aliens designs is great and memorable, such as Eleking, Metron, Dino Tank, and Paragon.
- The yelling of Ultraseven is memorable, like say "Dwaaah".
- The fight choreography is still good even if a little bit downgraded.
- The theme song is very catchy, Toru Furyuki is making theme song is excellent job to make things more memorable than any series, even kids like this song.
- Unlike the previous series, this one is vastly improved. The final episode is split into two parts; the two parts are fight numerous aliens invader and there's the final monster called Paragon, the two headed monster that little weaker than Zetton, but, it's still stronger and ends with the final episode in the high note. Dan Moboroshi tells to the Ultra Garison Members that Dan is actually the Ultraseven in disguise. It has some of a good fight scenes.
- In 1994, There's the sequel of Ultraseven called Heisei Ultraseven with more expanding story, better effects, the actor of Dan Moboroshi is returns, and several kaiju/aliens has returned in this series, including the new ones.
Bad Qualities
- While the series is focusing more Aliens than Kaiju, some fans dislike this due to minimum of Kaiju variations.
- While yelling is iconic, it's still mispronounced like the previous series, like "Dwaah" was mispronounced "Daaah" In Indonesia and Malaysia.
- While the music can be catchy, the yelling "Seven, Seven, Seven" can be repetitive and annoying, but it's still iconic.
- Some episodes are banned for certain reason:
- From Another Planet with Love is banned due to a resemblance to the WW2's Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing as this episode is makes things very disturbing, the Alien Spell is resembling to the Hibakusha, making thing more even disturbing. This episode is forbidden to rerun, but there's some footages has been appeared online, but not in high quality.
- Super Weapon R-1 is banned due to resemble to Fukushima Nuclear Disaster in 2011, a between days with 2011 Japan Tsunami Disaster. As such, this episode is forbidden to rerun and only available to watch is online.
