Five Nights at Freddy's is a 2023 movie directed by Emma Tammi, produced by Blumhouse Productions and distributed by Universal Pictures. It's an adaptation of the Five Nights at Freddy's video games.

Development of a Five Nights at Freddy's film adaptation began in April 2015 under the direction of Warner Bros. Pictures. Roy Lee, David Katzenberg, and Seth Grahame-Smith were set to produce it, with Gil Kenan announced as director and co-writer. After multiple production delays, Kenan resigned from the project, and further development on the film was transferred from Warner Bros. to Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions. Chris Columbus was hired to direct and co-write, ultimately leaving the project and being replaced by Emma Tammi in October 2022. It was filmed from February to April 2023 in New Orleans and surrounding communities on a budget of $20 million.

Five Nights at Freddy's was simultaneously released for streaming on Peacock and theatrically in the United States on October 27, 2023, by Universal Pictures. While critics were negative on the movie (similar to Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) and The Super Mario Bros. Movie), it was well-received by audiences and fans of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, and was a commercial success, grossing $297 million and becoming Blumhouse's highest-grossing film worldwide, surpassing Split (2016). A sequel, Five Nights at Freddy's 2, is scheduled to be released on December 5, 2025.

Good Qualities That Survived Five Nights

  1. The designs for the animatronics stay somewhat, very faithful to their game designs, thanks to Jim Henson's Creature Shop, the same company behind The Muppets and The Dark Crystal.
    1. Golden Freddy also gets a unique treatment, taking a mix between his designs from the first and second games, which is a nice touch.
  2. Decent musical score by The Newton Brothers.
  3. The Five Nights at Freddy's song by The Living Tombstone was used in the credits, and is still very great and catchy.
  4. Although Mike is very unlikable, he DOES get some character development.
    • Josh Hutcherson also does a very great job at performing him.
  5. Kellen Goff (who voiced Classic Freddy, Glamrock Freddy, The Daycare Attendant and Funtime Freddy in the games) came back to voice Foxy, and he still does a good job at him.
  6. Thankfully Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2 saved the entire FNaF franchise just two months later. And was seen by critics as a way better thing than the film.
  7. Blumhouse eventually learned from their mistakes and therefore made the second film more horror-accurate.

Bad Qualities That Got Jumpscared and Springlocked

  1. Despite being a decent film on its own, it still has enough flaws to be on the Bad/Mediocre media side.
