Regular Show is an American animated series created by J. G. Quintel for Cartoon Network. It premiered on September 6th, 2010 and ended on January 16th, 2017, in the span of 8 seasons. The show received widespread critical acclaim by critics and audiences and is often considered one of the best Cartoon Network shows in the 2010s and has become well-known for bringing back Cartoon Network to its former glory.
Why It Rocks
- Cleverly ironic title: The title claims that it's a regular show, but in almost all the episodes, something weird always happens.
- Hilarious adult humor that almost never feels stale. Most of the jokes are funny and barely stale or boring, and the timing is excellent,.
- Simple yet great animation
- Most of the plots are very creative.
- Tons of memorable episodes, such as:
- The Power (which started the show on a high note)
- Mordecai and the Rigbys.
- Eggscellent
- Exit 9B (one of the best episodes of the entire show and started season 4 on an excellent note).
- A Regular Epic Final Battle (which ended the show on an extremely high note).
- It pays respectful tribute to 80s and 90s media such as: Memorable songs from these eras (which is quite unique as there aren't many kids cartoons to include songs from these eras), references to 80s NES games and more.
Bad Qualities
- After season 3, the show would later decline in quality
- Season 4, while still great, has weaker plots, due to some of them being recycled, and kickstarted the love triangle.
- Season 5, while not bad, doesn't have the same charm as the first 3 seasons, and flanderization became more noticeable, and still continues the Love triangle between Mordecai, CJ and Margaret. Thankfully, it fixes issues from season 4.
- Season 6, while not entirerly bad, it's considered to be the weakest out of all as it mostly focuses on Mordecai's love triangle, and the characterization is notably weaker compared to previous seasons. In addition, they made some plot points that are done for seemingly no reason, such as
- While season 7 is an improvement over seasons 5 and 6, the humor and the animation are not as good as the first 3 seasons.
- Season 8, while good and an improvement over season 7, was widely criticized for its space theme, with many people claiming it was the show's attempt to cash-in on shows like Futurama and Rick and Morty, and also heavily borrowed elements from those shows. Despite that, the finale is excellent.
- Some characters, most notably Muscle Man, are unlikable.
- There are some bad episodes such as:
- Do Me a Solid
- The Best Burger in the World
- Wall Buddy
- Dumped at the Altar (Which ended season 6 on a sour note)
