Starfield is a 2023 first-person RPG developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It was released on September 6th, 2023 for Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S, with an early access being added on the Premium Edition, giving people the game 5 days early.

Why It Rocks

  1. Great graphics, showing the power of the newly-created Creation Engine 2.
  2. Solid gameplay.
  3. Compared to previous Bethesda games, even if the game is buggy, it is far more polished than those games, especially compared to Fallout 76.
  4. Unlike Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls: Blades, this game has no microtransactions, which is important.
  5. This game is responsible for redeeming Bethesda, proving that they're still capable of making great games after the disastrous launch of Fallout 76.

Bad Qualities

  1. Because the game is technically not a space exploration game like Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous and No Man's Sky, and is instead an RPG like previous Bethesda games (this time with space elements), the game lacks various features from those space exploration games.
    1. There's no smooth transition between space and planets, instead relies on a cutscene and fast travel.
    2. There are also invisible walls in all the planets, since most of them are barren.
  2. Mediocre AI. The enemy AI bugs out during combat sections, which results hilarious bugs.

Reception

The game was well-received by critics, Internet reviewers, and Steam users, praising the graphics, the exploration, and the gameplay, although they were mixed on the story.

Internet reviewers were split into four opinions: One opinion is that the game is a masterpiece and worth playing, others say it's nothing special but still a solid game, others consider it a bad game, while the last opinion is that it's a standard Bethesda game, saying if you like Bethesda, you will like this, if you don't like them, then you won't like this.

Due to the recent pronouns controversy and the game not being available on PlayStation, the game was review bombed on Metacritic.

The game, while still well received, is by far one of the most controversial games of 2023, due to polarized views on the game.
