Pretendo Network is a homebrew online service that was founded in 2021(?) The main purpose of the service is to restore Nintendo Network functionality or discontinued services for the 3DS/Wii U. When Nintendo announced the shutdown of Nintendo Network, the service gained more attention.
Why It Makes You Hop Back Onto Your 3DS/Wii U
- Ever since the original Nintendo Network servers were shut down on April 8, 2024, Pretendo has the opportunity to bring back the servers. However, not all games are supported yet.
- However, there is only 1 person still connected to the Nintendo Network servers after the shutdown.
- It has existed roughly 3 years earlier before Nintendo Network was shut down, meaning players could access Pretendo's servers before the Nintendo Network was shut down.
- Connecting to Pretendo on the Wii U only requires a DNS change through the system settings.
- It also has a replacement for Miiverse (which is forbidden on this wiki) called Juxtaposition, with better moderation.
- It's free as well!
- Much like Wiimmfi, hackers will be banned.
Bad Qualities
- Original NNIDs can't access the service.
- If you are using an emulator, you must have a real Wii U and dump the NAND. However, Cemu is the only way to play on an emulator, since Citra was discontinued after Nintendo sued them.
- The 3DS requires hacks to connect.
- As mentioned before, not all games are supported.
Trivia
- The only person who is still connected to Nintendo Network is Fishguy6564 (still connected to Mario Kart 7). Some people say this is Nintendo's answer to the Noble 14 (a group of players who were still online on Halo 2 after the servers were closed, which ended on May 11, 2010, when Apache N4SIR, the last player online, was disconnected.)
