VidLii is a video-sharing website created by Jan in December 2015 as an alternative to YouTube.

The site is based on YouTube's earlier years (2006-2010) and was originally praised for being a callback to the early years of YouTube until a controversial corporation named KolymaNET took control in 2022.[1][2] It wouldn't be until late 2024 that KolymaNET was thankfully shut down, and the site would be bought by a new owner, Aniki, who would fix most of the issues present here.[3] Unfortunately, its reputation was already destroyed by then.

Why You Can't Display Yourself

  1. Ever since KolymaNET took ownership, moderation became nonexistent, as a lot of Neo-Nazism, racist, and illegal content started appearing on the site.[4]
  2. They can't handle a single bit of criticism as mods (especially BigMushroomFan) would ban innocent users for criticizing them, even if those users have good reasons to get the illegal content off the site.[2]
  3. There isn’t even a way to hide NSFW content, even if the age restriction feature exists, people can bypass it easily by setting the NSFW content as their profile picture or channel banner.
  4. The perpetrator of the 2024 Eskisehir Mosque stabbings was an active user on VidLii, known as Skreewie. He was likely influenced to do the attacks by the shock content hosted there.[5][6] Despite getting banned after the attacks, they still left a scar on VidLii's reputation.
  5. While a new owner came to fix most of the issues the site had since KolymaNET was shut down, this era destroyed VidLii's reputation.
