Altruists is the fifth episode of Ren & Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon". It was one of three episodes that did not air on television in North America, along with Naked Beach Frenzy and Stimpy's Pregnant.

Plot

Ren and Stimpy help a homeless woman and her headless son get their new home.

Why It's an Egomaniac

1. The one scene where Ren is sawing a log on Stimpy's buttocks in order to simulate buttsex. We kid you not.
2. As with the rest of the episodes of this show, Ren mistreats Stimpy throughout the majority of this episode for no reason at all.
3. The watch duck looks like a grown-up Plucky Duck from Tiny Toon Adventures. it's surprising that Warner Bros. hasn't sued Viacom and John Kricfalusi yet for shameless copyright infringement.
4. A duck has sex with Stimpy while Stimpy pretends to be a female duck. And Stimpy, for some reason, gives birth to three duck and cat hybrids.
   • The three duck and cat hybrids (referred to as The Three Things) are also ugly.
   • Not only is it disturbing, but this makes no sense, even by Ren & Stimpy standards, as not only that cat and duck DNA too different to make hybrids possible, but it is impossible to automatically change gender to the opposite sex from cross-dressing.
   • Because of how Stimpy is somehow able to reproduce like a female after a duck has sex with him due to pretending to be a female duck (which again, as mentioned before, makes absolutely zero sense even by Ren & Stimpy standards), in the same vein as a later episode Stimpy's Pregnant this episode gives out the unfortunate implication that Stimpy is a transgender, which could be offensive and insensitive to transgender people and their identity struggles in real life.
5. The headless son is very disturbing to look at, even if you pause the episode for a few minutes.
6. This feels like a ripoff of "Robin Hoek", and a poor man's version of The Three Stooges.
7. The homeless woman is ugly at times.
8. Ren and Stimpy run over a turtle that resembles Franklin and kill it.
   • Also earlier, Stimpy kills the duck as well.
9. The ending features a cop who not only has an Irish accent for some reason but is also black, which could come off as racist and stereotypical to some people who are black people from Ireland. But here are some more pointers that prove this episode is even more racist.
   • Ren and Stimpy also steal a painting that is a parody of Elvis who is not only slumped on the toilet, but he is also Mexican, which comes off as offensive and racist towards Mexican people.
   • Stimpy also imitates an Italian immigrant while working on the roof which could come off as racist to anyone who is Italian.
   • These three racist jokes really show John Kricfalusi's racism in action.
10. Ren and Stimpy would go to greater lengths to help the homeless woman. They steal a truck filled with endangered trees that were the last of their species from a wildlife preserve just to make the house.
11. Some of the jokes dragged on for way too long than they should have such as the log sawing scene mentioned above, Stimpy climbing strangely up the watch duck's bump, Stimpy imitating an Italian immigrant also mentioned above, Ren scaring Stimpy while they’re working in the bathroom, and an announcer listing all of the widow's and son's new stuff and prices for each item.
    • Out of all the jokes from "Altruists", the joke with the announcer listing out the obvious drags on the longest in almost three minutes. Even worse, it's one of those filler jokes that would try to get people to laugh, but fail because the joke just went on for far too long.
    • As if all the episodes of Ren & Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon" weren't long enough, this one goes on for almost 40 minutes, which is actually double the length of a standard half-hour episode - which is far too long and may explain the abundance of filler.

Redeeming Qualities

1. A good concept, which is helping the poor is very helpful but poorly executed.
2. There are some slapstick moments at the beginning where Ren slaps Stimpy, which feels like the original Ren and Stimpy series.
3. Mr. and Mrs. Pipe finally return on this episode.
4. The design for the Black Irish cop is decent, though it needs some more work.
5. The voice acting is at least okay.

Reception

Well-known cartoon devotee Thad Komorowski gave this episode two out of five stars on his Sick Little Monkeys: The Unauthorized Ren & Stimpy Story book. He said in regards to it: "Obscenely long and woefully unfunny. The longest Ren & Stimpy cartoon ever".

Trivia

• This is the only episode of the Adult Party Cartoon that wasn't a scrapped story plot for Nickelodeon.
• This is the longest episode of the entire Ren and Stimpy series, clocking in at almost 40 minutes.
• This episode was written by Eric Bauza, the voice actor of Stimpy in APC.
  • The controversial log-sawing scene was Bauza's idea.
• John Kricfalusi (creator of the show) considers this to be the best Ren and Stimpy episode he worked on.
