Cartoon Network Studios is an American animation studio owned by Warner Bros. Entertainment. It was founded on October 21, 1994; and located in Burbank, California, the studio primarily produced and developed animated programs and shorts for Cartoon Network. In the 2010s, their programs began to expand into their sister companies Adult Swim and HBO Max. Their key people were Sam Register, studio president; Ed Adams, EVP/GM; and Bobbie Page, SVP of production.

In 2023, it was announced that the Cartoon Network Studios Burbank building would close its doors on August 1, 2023. Since then, all operations have been transferred to Warner Bros. Animation.

Why They Rock

  1. They make awesome cartoons from the classic ones like Dexter's Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, The Powerpuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog to the current ones in the likes of Apple & Onion, Craig of the Creek, Summer Camp Island, Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart, Victor and Valentino, Steven Universe, We Bare Bears and it's spin-off We Baby Bears and Infinity Train.
  2. Their 2001-2010 logos are very memorable and creative featuring variations of the characters in the sketch animation from their cartoons after the end credits doing something funny (or badass for example Samurai Jack).
    • Additionally, their shows from the '90s have later seasons in the 2000s that introduced this logo which is equally great such as Dexter's Laboratory (Seasons 3 & 4), The Powerpuff Girls (Seasons 5 & 6), and Johnny Bravo (Season 4).
    • Their 2010-2014 logos are also great.
  3. Their European studio, Cartoon Network Studios Europe (now Hanna-Barbera Studio Europe) is also great and they did amazing cartoons like The Amazing World of Gumball.
  4. They also make cool movies based on their cartoons like Steven Universe: The Movie, Regular Show: The Movie, Dexter's Laboratory: Ego Trip, Craig Before The Creek and The Powerpuff Girls Movie (which is also their only theatrical film).
  5. FireBreather (Based on the graphic novel of the same name) is also Cartoon Network's first CGI movie.
  6. Many of their cartoons have excellent animation, creative humor, and marvelous voice acting.
  7. They also make cartoons for adult audiences like Close Enough and co-produce adult cartoons with Williams Street to Adult Swim like the fifth season of Samurai Jack, Primal and JJ Villard's Fairy Tales.
  8. Like Nickelodeon Animation Studio, they also have respected animators who work or worked at the studio, like Genndy Tartakovsky, Craig McCracken, Lauren Faust, Paul Rudish, Chris Savino, Maxwell Atoms, Pendleton Ward, Rob Renzetti, J.G. Quintel, Rebecca Sugar, Ian Jones-Quartey, Daniel Chong, Parker Simmons, Owen Dennis, Thurop Van Orman, John McIntyre, C.H. Greenblatt, Patrick McHale and more.
  9. They started doing cartoons for HBO Max, starting with Adventure Time: Distant Lands.
  10. Their miniseries like Over the Garden Wall and shorts are very good.
  11. They also did the 2001 television The Flintstones on the Rocks film, which was dedicated to the memory of Hoyt Curtin and William Hanna, who died in 2000 and 2001 respectively, despite its flaws.

Bad Qualities

  1. Their logos since 2013 have been oversimplified into being dull and lazy as most of the variations are nothing but just clips from the show, which is a big downgrade from their 2001-2010 sketch animation logos and to a lesser extent the 2010-2014 logos.
    • Luckily some logos perfectly reassemble their iconic 2001 sketch logos such as Steven Universe, Mighty Magiswords, Apple & Onion, etc, even other ones that are not in sketch animation are creative such as the logo for The Powerpuff Girls (2016), Clarence, the fifth season of Samurai Jack, Over the Garden Wall, etc.
    • Despite the oversimplified design, it at least stays faithful to the 2001-2010 logo.
  2. Like Nickelodeon Animation Studio, some animators who worked at the studio were caught in controversies like Skyler Page, who sexually harassed Adventure Time crew member, Emily Partridge, which got him fired from Clarence in 2014, Julia Vickerman, who made a controversial 2010 Tumblr post which resurfaced in 2019, caused Cartoon Network to privatize the pilot of Twelve Forever from their YouTube channel as a result and Kyle P. Diddy Carrozza, who got arrested for two possession child pornography in 2024, also caused Cartoon Network to privatize the Mighty Magiswords and removed his interview clips from their YouTube channel as a result.
  3. They did some terrible cartoons and live-action shows like Out of Jimmy's Head and Incredible Crew.
    • They also did the infamous reboots of Ben 10 (2016) (luckily this one got a better season finale) and The Powerpuff Girls (2016), which were negatively criticized by the fans of the original series and even newcomers alike.
      • They also turned down the offer of Mr. Warburton to make Galactic: Kids Next Door, a proposed spin-off to Codename: Kids Next Door, despite being the only revival fans were interested to see and their huge campaigns to get the show approved. With the failed reboots, chances for a proper spin-off/revival/reboot are likely low.
    • It attempts to get live-action shows. This is apparent because the channel is called "Cartoon Network".
