Comedy Central is an American pay television channel owned by Viacom Global Entertainment Group, a unit of the Viacom Media Networks division of ViacomCBS, and based in Manhattan, New York. The channel is geared for mature audiences and carries comedy programming in the form of both original, licensed, and syndicated series, stand-up comedy specials, and feature films.

Since the early 2000s, Comedy Central has expanded globally with localized channels in Europe, India, Southeast Asia, Latin America, New Zealand, Middle East and Africa. The international channels are operated by ViacomCBS International Media Networks.

Comedy Central is available to approximately 91,859,000 households (78.919% of households with TV) as of January 2016.

Why It's Very Funny

  1. It was the world's first all-comedy network. All comedies. All the time, and it succeeded being a VERY funny channel.
  2. It has every program genre like black comedy, sitcom, slapstick, mockumentary, physical comedy, sketch comedy, surreal humor and of course, spoof.
  3. The comedy channel made a breakthrough when South Park (its iconic program) premiered in 1997. It became the first major basic cable show to carry the TV-MA rating for mature audiences as the show was too controversial to be picked up by a mainstream network.
  4. It airs great syndicated shows like The Cleveland Show, The Office (US), Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill, Parks and Recreation, The Ren & Stimpy Show and especially MADtv.
  5. Besides South Park, they had many other good shows such as Drawn Together, Futurama (the final three seasons for Fox), Mystery Science Theater 3000 and The Man Show.
  6. Its 1997 city logo was well-received. The logos from 1991, 1992, and 2000 were also similar city logos to the 1997 one.
    • It also has a new logo style since 2011, which is decent. The first logo was a black big cross Cs, and the current logo since 2018 has the same big cross Cs, but its now yellow.
  7. It spawned international counterparts like Canada's The Comedy Network and Israel's HOT Comedy Central.
  8. It has its own film division, Comedy Central Films, which was founded in 1995, although their first film, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, was released in 1999.

Bad Qualities

  1. The network has aired some bad and/or mediocre shows like Legends of Chamberlain Heights, Lil' Bush, Fairview, Ren & Stimpy (2024) and Brickleberry.
  2. They've gone downhill in its later years:
    • Much to their sense of irony, they still air shows that mock SJWs or make fun of woke agenda like South Park.
    • Saberspark said that once the infamous series Fairview was released, the network had officially hit rock bottom.
