Synopsis

When a giant cocoon appears in the living room, no one can locate Beast Boy.

Why It Doesn't Deserve a Croissant

  1. Over-the-top gross-out imagery that will (probably) make you cringe. Heck, even the characters are disgusted. One example is Raven plucking Beast Boy's heart out as part of analyzing the bad moral stated below, another is Killer Moth transforming the Titans into bugs.
    • Speaking of gross-out imagery, this episode is also one of the most disgusting Teen Titans Go! episodes too as it feels like like the “Who Wants Chowder?” scene in Family Guy drawn out to make a whole episode.
  2. Misleading title: There are no croissants found in this episode at all, apart from one mention from Cyborg, despite the fact that Beast Boy’s cocoon looks like a croissant, which is something Cyborg pointed out.
  3. The running joke of the Titans vomiting off-screen is really annoying and can get on your last nerve.
  4. At the beginning of the episode, Robin reads the other Titans the story of The Ugly Duckling to teach them a lot about inner beauty and the story is told incorrectly. While it’s likely done for comedic purposes, the story comes off as just plain weird. Robin also tries to explain to the Titans that looks aren't everything while insulting Starfire and keeps putting a bag over her head, which is hypocritical.
    • In the Teen Titans Go! version, the duckling hatches ugly, and then becomes depressed and cries. He looks at his reflection and sees he became a muscular swan man. He gets many swan girlfriends and goes swimming and eats lots of cakes. He is also implied to get drunk, which is inappropriate for the target audience.
  5. Beast Boy also goes through “metamorphosis” and there’s no indication he actually did it.
  6. Speaking of which, the gag where the Titans try to pronounce metamorphosis is not funny and actually comes off as annoying and repetitive.
  7. A giant cocoon randomly appears in the Titans’ living room and an alien-like insect hatches from it, actually kickstarting the plot. In fact, it is pure filler, as it takes around half of the episode.
  8. The scene where Raven fantasizes what Beast Boy would look like from the cocoon is very weird and inappropriate for young audiences.
  9. One scene showed Robin attempting to burn a cocoon (which he thought was an alien), which is not appropriate for a kids show as that is basically abortion.
  10. The episode gets hard to watch at this point because the characters do nothing but vomit throughout the whole episode.
  11. It also caused them to lose the fight with Killer Moth and he turns them into bug mutants.
  12. Moral: Looks are everything
  13. Bad ending: The Titans accept that looks aren't everything only to vomit at Beast Boy revealing his dyed hair tips.
  14. The episode is heavily censored in Southeast Asian airings due to reasons 1, 3, 12 & 13. It can't help that they keep puking & show questionable imagery.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. At least the other Titans had a point of Starfire looking creepy.
  2. The cutaway gag about how Robin goes pants shopping is actually hilarious.
  3. Raven’s perverted fantasy, while inappropriate, is actually beautiful.
  4. Even if it has a bad message of "looks are everything", it tries to tell people to not judge people by their looks.
