Da Boom Crew is a Canadian-American animated series created by Bruce W. Smith (creator of Disney's The Proud Family) that aired on The WB Network's Kids! WB block from September 11 to October 2, 2004.

Plot

A bunch of kids get hit by a power surge which causes them to be transported into their own video game.

Why The Crew Should Blow Themselves (in a bad way)

  1. The characters near-constantly talk in slang that virtually never EXISTED in the first place (i.e. - "Tony Hawk it later, homie!").
    • Jubei, of all characters, suffers through it the most because everything he says is nothing but generic slang.
  2. It's highly pretentious and tries way too hard to be funny.
  3. The entire show itself is basically all just an annoying mess.
  4. It's a case of a horrible TV show with a good concept. Other sufferers from this case include Legends of Chamberlain Heights and later seasons of Oggy and the Cockroaches.
  5. It overuses every sci-fi cliche in the book.
  6. It uses racist black stereotypes, which is ironic considering that one of the creators (Bruce Smith, the main force behind it) is African-American.
  7. This show was so bad that only 4 of the 13 episodes aired in America, while the other nine aired in the UK. However, the entire series became available to watch in America on Amazon Prime in 2020.
  8. This show looks like a poor person's The Proud Family, which is ironic considering the show was made by the same people.
  9. The theme song (while it's a parody and catchy) is an unoriginal rip-off of Puff Daddy's "Come With Me" and Notorious B.I.G. and Eminem's "You Only Get One Shot" songs.
  10. Fundamental plot hole: The kids are surprised by what they see in the world they were teleported to, although the aforementioned place is identical to the game they programmed.
  11. A lot of lip-sync screw-ups here and there.
  12. Not one episode from this series is excellent; all of the episodes in this series were horrible as outlined in all of the negative qualities on this page.
  13. The show's logo appears at a few random points every episode for no apparent reason.
  14. The breaks between the cold open and intro, intro and first scenes, between scenes before and after commercial breaks and the final scene and end credits last unnecessarily long.
  15. Even the end credits are horrible as they are cheaply made and poor quality, since they were placed on the side of the screen, and the production company logos lazily appear in credit rather than separately in the same size as the credits making it barely noticeable.
  16. This show, along with Coconut Fred's Fruit Salad Island, Loonatics Unleashed and Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue! were one of the many shows that contributed to the decline of Saturday Morning cartoons blocks (such as many names as Kids' WB!) starting in the mid-2000s, as well as Berliner Film Companie (also known as Berlin Animation Film).
  17. The show was doomed since it aired at 11:30 on the KWB schedule, which was usually when most viewers would tune out.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Decent character designs.
  2. The art style looks nice.
  3. Besides the lip-sync screw-ups, the animation isn't too bad.
  4. As mentioned, the concept is nice, but it has been executed poorly.

Reception

Da Boom Crew was panned by critics and audiences alike due to writing, characters and stereotyping of African-Americans and currently holds a 2.4 on IMDB.
