Deadpool & Wolverine is a 2024 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring Deadpool and Wolverine (as the title suggests), produced by Marvel Studios, Maximum Effort, and 21 Laps Entertainment, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the 34th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the sequel to Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2. It was directed by Shawn Levy (who also wrote the film) along with Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. Reynolds and Hugh Jackman star as the titular characters (Wade Wilson/Deadpool for the former and Logan/Wolverine for the latter, respectively), alongside Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Aaron Stanford, and Matthew Macfadyen in supporting roles.

Plot

Deadpool is pulled from his quiet life by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) where he partners with a reluctant Wolverine on a journey to save his universe.

Why It's On the Fucking Go!

  1. The most significant thing to say about this film is that seeing Wolverine again after some years is fantastic since his previous film, Logan, was already great.
    • Also, he's more faithful to the comic's design here because not only does he have his yellow suit, he also has his mask, leading fans to rejoice at a comic book-accurate Wolverine.
    • If that isn't a shock, Johnny Storm, the one portrayed by Chris Evans, also returns here.
  2. The soundtrack here is excellent because the original motion picture soundtrack features well-known and memorable songs, such as (and especially) "Bye Bye Bye" opening, "I'm with You" by Avril Lavigne, and "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Green Day, both are already amazing songs and especially because the use of the latter is such an excellent and touching letter to the fans.
  3. Like the previous Deadpool films (and the aforementioned Logan), this still has its R-rating and is a unique take on an R-rating film for Disney and Marvel. This also allows the film to keep the charisma of the previous two films (which were already amazing anyway). It shows that Disney and Marvel can distribute and produce adult movies, showing that they aren't pulling back punches at a movie meant for kids and teens. The film also doesn't brag about its R-rating, making it much more enjoyable.
  4. The two main titular characters are still likable, with Wolverine being genuinely badass, and of course, Deadpool with the fourth wall breaking. It also helps that they both get along with each other later on.
    • What's also great about these two is that they initially fought each other, but later in the film, they both team up.
  5. The ending credits: The fact that the aforementioned "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" plays while also showing the behind-the-scenes footage and film montage of previous Deadpool and X-Men films made it even better, and sadder than ever; it's like a great message and dedication to the fans of the previous films before this was made.
  6. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman do an excellent job portraying the titular characters; their performances are outstanding on many levels, with the latter looking utterly badass in the scenes featuring him and the former being humorous.
  7. The humor used is excellent, like Deadpool digging up Logan's grave after the ending of Logan and fighting the TVA agents with Logan's corpse while dancing to Backstreet Boys, Deadpool getting stabbed in the crotch by Logan, and Deadpool making fun of Disney for releasing this film made for adults.
  8. The posters are creative; a particular one shows Deadpool holding his gun against Wolverine (which shows their initial fight), and one other poster has reverse poster art (Deadpool holding his swords and Wolverine is seen on the reflection, which has the opposite one where Wolverine shows his claws and Deadpool is seen on the reflection).
    • There's also a poster where Deadpool and Wolverine have their unique heart parts; the former is red on the left and has the word "best" on it, and the latter is yellow on the right and has the word "friends".
  9. Incredible action scenes like the Wolverine and Deadpool fight with the Deadpool Corps, Deadpool fighting the TVA agents, the Others battling Cassandra Nova's army, and the duel between Deadpool and Wolverine.
  10. Excellent ending: While some fans of Logan may feel that the film's ending was thrown out the window, Wolverine gets a happy ending for once in which he retires and lives a peaceful life with Laura.
  11. Great and hilarious quotes:
    1. "You got nothing to say, MOUTH?!?"
    2. "I'm gonna fight you now."
      1. "Oh, are you?"
    3. "You will never save the world! You couldn't even save a relationship!!"
    4. "Suck it, Fox! I'm going to Disneyland!"
    5. "Fox killed him. Disney brought him back. They're going to make him do this until he's 90!"
    6. "Welcome to the MCU. You're joining at a bit of a low point."
    7. "Huh. Paul Rudd finally aged."
    8. "Look, we know the title of this thing so I know what you're wondering: how are we gonna do this without dishonoring Logan's memory? Well, I'll tell you how. We're not."
  12. There is a tribute to Henry Delaney, the late son of Rob Delaney. If you stay for the end credits, a dedication says, "For Henry Delaney". Ryan Reynolds helped Rob Delaney with it, which can even make you cry.

The Only Bad Quality

  1. As previously mentioned, some fans of Logan feel like the ending was thrown out of the window as the movie opens with Deadpool digging up his grave.

Reception

Some publications reported that the film was divisive, while others said it opened to largely positive reviews. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, 78% of 393 critics gave the film a positive review and an average rating of 7/10. The website's critics consensus reads, "Ryan Reynolds makes himself at home in the MCU with acerbic wit while Hugh Jackman provides an Adamantium backbone to proceedings in Deadpool & Wolverine, an irreverent romp with a surprising soft spot for a bygone era of superhero movies." Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 56 out of 100 based on 58 critics, indicating "mixed or average" reviews. Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "A" on an A+ to F scale, while those surveyed by PostTrak gave it a 96% positive score, with 85% saying they would recommend it.

Trivia

  • Deadpool & Wolverine would later be parodied in Zootopia 2, named Deadmule & Wolferine.
  • The forest in which Deadpool dances in the opening scene was the same forest that Knuckles the Echidna in the Paramount Pictures Sonic the Hedgehog film series uses as a training course in the Knuckles TV series/miniseries, as both were filmed in Pinewood Studios. Coincidentally, Deadpool & Wolverine was released in the same year as Knuckles, whereas the former was released three months after the latter.
