Full English is a short-lived British animated adult sitcom created by Jack Williams, Harry Williams and Alex Scarfe for Channel 4. While it first started airing in November of 2012, but was cancelled less than a month later in December of the same year due to the show receiving extremely negative reviews from critics and audiences alike.

Why It's No British

  1. Unlike most British cartoons like Aardman's Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, Postman Pat, Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam, Thomas & Friends and Noddy's Toyland Adventures, Full English has no charm, creativity or love whatsoever.
  2. Misleading Title: The Title of the show compares itself to the traditional Full English breakfast that it was named after. How can a dish have anything in common with a cartoon?
  3. This show tends to be as offensive as South Park and Family Guy as it's way of comedy is by making fun of fat people, emos, disabled people, etc., but it tries way too hard at doing it and fails every single time.
    • Not only that, but the way the writers of Full English try making offensive jokes as often as possible. These are really them trying to offend you in a bad way!
  4. It feels like a shameless clone of Family Guy except with a British twist.
  5. The show is extremely mean-spirited towards the main character, Edgar. His wife and boss/father-in-law are always abusing him and blaming him for everything that is mostly a simple mistake. For example, Edgar is forced to live in a mental home for getting rightfully mad at his cheapskate boss, even though Ken was obviously the one who used his anger on him in the first place.
  6. Most of the characters are either very unlikable, unnecessarily mean, selfish, boring, underdeveloped, uninteresting, soulless, or just annoying.
    • Ken Lavender is an egotistically unfair cheapskate and an incredibly malicious and neglectful boss who never seems to care about his employee, Edgar. He even treats Edgar like a slave instead of a real employee, he always has the same nasty spirit as any character who is worse than him like say Mr. Krabs, and out of all characters in this show, he is the worst one.
    • Edgar's wife, Wendy, is unfair and abusive to Edgar, as mentioned before. She always treats her husband like she hates him. Even if he is sorry, or did something stupid that was unintentional, or was only trying to make everything up to her, Wendy has never treated her husband that well. If she loves her husband, then how come she does the same mistakes and misunderstandings Ken does? That is the example of hypocrisy.
    • Dusty is incredibly stupid and annoying, and he just never shuts up! Not to mention, he is overly idiotic. His stupidity manages to make Jar Jar Binks look like a graduate school student!
    • Eve is a one-dimensional fat emo stereotype who is clearly paper-thin and hard to bother caring about.
    • Jason has little-to-no personality or any form of character development. The only bit of character development he has ever been given is when he went to Thailand to find himself. Even if he has gotten character development, he's still way blander, more boring, and more underdeveloped than anyone else in the show.
    • False advertising on one of the promo images: Squidge is barely a main character. In every episode, he is a pointless character used as a plot device who constantly says nothing but naughty words all the time. In fact, the way he swears gets really old fast, and his squeaky voice is very annoying to listen to.
  7. Some adult contend went uncensored when the first five episodes aired on UK television (the sixth episode was unaired, but can be found online), including a scene where Jason and a Castilian Spanish man have onscreen gay sex in the middle of an island when Jason went to Thailand to find himself.
    • Even worse, Jason is an underaged boy and he is not supposed to do that. Yes, before Cuties was a thing, the writers and creators thought it would be very funny to exploit the innocence of an underage boy from England.
  8. The jokes in this show are either annoying, unfunny, bland, repetitive and/or boring; an example of this is in one episode where some miniature aliens are squashed by Dusty.
  9. The writing tries way too hard to be like South Park or Family Guy's writing. But ends up going to the levels of being either really stupid or just tasteless with/even without its usage of crude humor.
  10. The crudeness is just bland and lifeless; they are shown no effort was put into it whatsoever.
  11. The characters designs look uncanny, with some of them making really strange looking facial expressions. Additionally, they are unfitting in a British cartoon, as they fit more into an American cartoon instead.
  12. There is an infamous scene in one episode where Eve summons the ghosts of Princess Diana and Jade Goody during a séance. No words can describe just how tasteless it is.
  13. While the voice acting is decent for the most part, the voice acting for both Sauidge and Dusty, provided by Kayvan Novak, is grating and annoying. In the case of Dusty, it is more grating since he talks too much and as for Squidge, the squeaky voice is even worse to listen to.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Despite not fitting well in British animation standards with the uncanny character designs and the disgusting content throughout, the animation isn't too bad, being done by Rough Draft Studios.
  2. The voice acting is decent (with the exception of the voice acting for both Squidge and Dusty, respectively), with big names providing some of the best voices.
  3. The intro is actually pretty good, and much better than the actual show itself.
  4. Wendy deserved Edgar's revenge on her, despite the fact Edgar was on steroids in one episode.
  5. Edgar usually comes across as the only likable character, since he doesn't come across as an idiot dad, unlike Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin.

Reception

Full English has received an overwhelming number of negative reviews from critics and audiences alike due to it's very mean-spirited tone, horrendous comedy and satire, unlikable, annoying, and bland characters, uncanny art style, and offensive stereotypes. The series has an average rating of 5.2/10 on IMDb.
