It's Pat is a 1994 comedy film directed by Adam Bernstein and starring Julia Sweeney (who also wrote the screenplay). The film was distributed by Buena Vista Pictures and produced by Touchstone Pictures. The film is based on the SNL character Pat Riley.

Plot

The plot follows Pat Riley, an androgynous stout, whiny and obnoxious job-hopper. This leads to Pat's neighbour, Kyle Jacobsen, wanting to unveil Pat's gender.

Why It's Not Pat

  1. Stupid premise that stretches out a TV sketch to a poorly made feature-length movie.
  2. The jokes are very unfunny, mainly the ones about Pat's gender.
  3. Terrible acting, especially from Julia Sweeney during the early days of her career.
  4. The characters are annoying and/or creepy, except Kyle Jacobsen.
  5. The film is also infamous for being pulled from theaters after its opening weekend, making only a paltry $60,000 on an $8 million budget.
  6. Lazy poster that makes the film look more like an R-rated porno film rather than a PG-13 comedy.
  7. The story is pretty boring: Just a crappy story about a job-hopper whose neighbour wants to unveil the job-hopper's gender.
  8. Bland cinematography:
    • None of the scenes from the movie were shot decently, even the most notable ones.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Charles Rocket's character (Kyle Jacobsen) is pretty funny.
  2. The great band Ween makes an appearance.

Reception

The film was released in only three cities (33 theaters) and was overwhelmingly panned, complete with a 0% "rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In addition, the film was nominated for five Golden Raspberries, but lost all of them to Showgirls.

Trivia

  • Quentin Tarantino did uncredited contributions to the script. Yes, that Quentin Tarantino.
