Laundry Day is the 8th episode of the 1st season of Teen Titans Go!.
Synopsis
It's laundry day, but Robin makes Raven do the chore. But problems begin to arise when the Titans aren't wearing their suits.
Why It's a Terrible Day
- This episode is infamous for two reasons: the first being the fact that Robin and Beast Boy spend a good portion of the episode nude, which angered many parents and critics alike and how unlikable Robin is throughout the episode. Details will be explained below.
- The episode opens with the Titans fighting a jello monster and it already feels out of place, why are the Titans battling food-themed villains in this episode?
- Beast Boy “pranks” Cyborg by picking his nose and wiping it on his body and saying it's part of the jello monster, it's very disgusting!
- This is when the episode derails, the Titans decide it's time to wash their suits and Robin sees he is in charge of laundry this week, but he whines he doesn't want to do it, which the episode does not explain why. Instead, he acts like a spoiled brat and makes the Titans do contests to see who can do laundry day, so he can get out following the chores list.
- All of the "contests" are pointless and really take up time, these contests include running, throwing balls, and eating.
- Beast Boy even joins in on the eating contest, which is hotdogs, by the way, despite being a vegetarian. This angered many fans of the old show.
- To rub salt into the wound, Raven is chosen because she won all the contests and Raven complains that Robin is just being that way because he doesn't want to do his chores. Robin only responds by blending the chores list and eating it then vomiting it back up, it’s disgusting and makes you want to punch Robin in the face for being a lazy brat.
- Raven takes everyone's suits wash them.
- Plot hole: Why does Cyborg need his suit washed when it's a part of his body? He can just take a shower.
- Don't the Titans have other clothes to put on? Raven put on her pajamas. This plot hole was likely there so the writers can have Beast Boy and Robin in the nude.
- The scene where Cyborg is looking for a new suit is weird, especially since he has a female robot suit. This implies he either had a cyborg girlfriend and he stole her suit or he secretly likes to cross dress. Despite this, the implications are disturbing.
- Starfire sews the wrong way, while it's likely done for comedy, she sews like she's baking a cake, which is not how it's done.
- We then get scenes where Robin is stalked by fan girls and the Hive Five while nude because he accidentally went into the backyard while finding his room. We also get a scene where Beast Boy plays video games and eats tofu in the living room in the nude. As stated above, this angered many parents and critics due to how inappropriate the scenes are. Granted, no genitalia was shown, for obvious reasons, but still.
- Raven bringing the Titans' clothes to life and them getting into the wrong suits is disturbing because the clothes beat them up.
Redeeming Qualities
- To be fair, Robin deserved how he was treated in the episode because he manipulated Raven into doing his chores.
- There are some funny moments such as:
- Raven attempting to clean the suits with different tools but failing.
- Beast Boy having a staring contest with his reflection.
- The Hive Leader Gizmo refusing to fight Robin.
- Good Ending: Robin gets his comeuppance for being a spoiled brat and the Titans fight a barbecue sauce and juice monster in the wrong suits.
