Mario Party 4 is the fourth installment of the Mario Party series, it was developed by Hudson Soft and published by Nintendo in October 2002. It was also the first Mario Party game for the GameCube.

Why It's Invited to the Party Cube

  1. Great graphics, even for GameCube standards.
  2. As before stated, it's the first of the four Mario Party games for the GameCube.
  3. Catchy soundtrack like Loud and Sweet, Full of Vigor, Play Mini-Games (the song when viewing the rules of a minigame), and You Did It! (the jingle when someone wins a minigame).
  4. Great and sometimes memorable minigames like Booksquirm and Dungeon Duos.
  5. The hosts celebrate the player's character's birthday in Story Mode.
  6. The battle minigame Bowser's Bigger Blast is a remake of Bowser's Big Blast from Mario Party 2, which can be a throwback to Mario Party 2 fans.
  7. The dialogue can be humorous at times, an example is when the rules of Darts of Doom is being explained, a Koopa Kid says "The player with the least points..." and then the fan holding Koopa Kid says "Gets a back rub!"
  8. You get rewarded for getting a certain time or score in minigames.
  9. You can play as Daisy and Waluigi in Story Mode, which you couldn't do in the previous game.
  10. For the first time in Mario Party history, you can play as a team of 2 in Party Mode.
  11. The boards are now fully rendered in 3D.

Bad Qualities

  1. The Chance Time (referred to in-game as Reversal of Fortune) is wonky.
  2. All the Bowser minigames are luck-based. If only ONE player loses, Bowser can steal half or all of your coins, as well as your items.
  3. You can play as the hosts, Bowser and Koopa Kid, but only in the minigame Beach Volley Folley.
  4. No duel minigames. Although story minigames are closer, you can only duel the hosts in Story Mode and you can only play them when you win a board.
  5. DK and Bowser both have annoying animal sound effects as their voice clips could have been provided by Grant Kirkhope and Scott Burns, so it could have been the first Mario game and first Party game to have both Grant Kirkhope and Scott Burns voice DK and Bowser. This issue wouldn't be fixed until Mario Party 6.
  6. Like Mario Party 3, Luigi has blue as his color code. It could have been green to make it more accurate, whereas Yoshi's could have a lighter green.

Reception

Mario Party 4 on Metacritic received mixed to positive reception from critics, and positive reception from gamers. It has a score of 70/100 from critics, and 7.6/10 from gamers.

Trivia

  • The minigame Bob-Omb Breakers returns as a puzzle minigame in Mario Party DS, along with other puzzle games from 3 through 7.
