Mario Party 6 is the sixth installment of the Mario Party series, it was developed by Hudson Soft and published by Nintendo in November 2004. It was also the third Mario Party game released for the GameCube.

Good Qualities

  1. Great graphics, even though the models are reused from Mario Party 4 and 5.
  2. The soundtrack is amazing and extremely catchy.
  3. Decent amount of content.
  4. A great minigame selection.
  5. The day night cycle is a really interesting mechanic, changing board mechanics and even some minigames depending on the time of day.
  6. Toadette makes her Mario Party debut as a playable character.
  7. The minigame Block Star returns in Mario Party DS, Mario Party: The Top 100, and Mario Party Superstars which can be a throwback to Mario Party 6's fans.
    • Stick n' Spin from Mario Party 7 also returns in Mario Party DS, Mario Party: The Top 100, and Mario Party: Superstars as well.
  8. Unique to this game are Rare minigames, which can be unlocked by landing on Rare Minigame Spaces in Solo Mode.
  9. The Solo Mode is a great replacement to the Awful Story Modes in previous games. Instead of a long, tedious mode where you play Mario Party for 6 hours to just get a final board, you play a nice replay mode where you go through linear boards and unlock minigames. Not only is it a nice quick way to play Mario Party, but it allows you to earn minigames and stars very easily without hoping for a one on the boards.

Bad Qualities

  1. The Mic games and modes are a gimmick and isn't a good feature by any means. The Mic minigames are incredibly imbalanced for either the team of three or the one player. Fruit Talktail and Talkie Walkie favors the one player and Word Herd and Shoot Yer Mouth Off for the team of three.
  2. Like with Mario Party 3, Mario Party 4 and Mario Party 5, Luigi, Toad and Boo still have blue, white and cyan as their color codes. Thankfully, at least Koopa Kid and Toadette have their respective color codes of their appearances (dark green and magenta respectively).
    • To add to that, they don't have the character color code for any mini games.

Reception

Mario Party 6 on Metacritic received mixed to positive reviews from critics, and a positive reception from gamers. It has a score of 71/100 from critics, and 8.0/10 from gamers.[1]

Trivia

  • All of the Battle minigames use the song Fast and Furious.
