"Pizza Palaver" is the fifteenth episode in the fifth season of Fireman Sam.

Plot

Bella is horrified when a bird's nest falls down the chimney and into her new pizza oven which causes a fire.

Why It's Palaverful (In A Good Way) and Deserves Pizza Consisting of Every Topping

  1. Norman's fiascos after eating chili peppers twice were the biggest highlight of the episode.
    • When he ate the chillis the first time, he acted funny as Norman ran around Sam's garden while coughing until he could extinguish his burning mouth with the help of Sam and a glass of water.
    • Sam switched Dily's pizza with Norman's as a result of kicking a football at the chimney and causing a fire earlier in the episode, causing Norman to set his mouth on fire again, to which some might say Norman deserved it for making a bird's nest ruin Bella's pizza oven.
  2. There were three memorable lines in this episode:
    • "Oh, now you've gone and done it!"
    • "Sam! Help! My tonsils are melting!!"
    • "(screams) My mouth's on fire!!"
  3. Helen and Dilys (the parents of Mandy and Norman, respectively) taught everyone an excellent moral: not to play football while your parents are sleeping and near vulnerable areas where your objects might catch fire.
  4. There is a great nod to the original series, as Trevor is shown to use the fire hose to put out the spark in the oven, which shows that he still has keep his knowledge of how to deal with fires since he was a Auxiliary Fireman in the original series, and showed he still has his fireman persona intact, which makes up for the plot-hole of him not being an Auxiliary Fireman in Series 5.
  5. Sam, Mike, Elvis, Station Officer Steele, Trevor, Mandy, Norman, Dilys and Bella were all at their absolute best, thus being likable characters.
  6. Some scenes in the episode have great payoff, such as the plot point of the bird-nest falling into Bella's chimney with Norman accidentally kicking the football the wrong way and the ball accidentally landing on his head, which gets Mandy cross at Norman and later in the episode when Bells puts the Pizzas in the oven, it starts to go haywire and the reason for it is revealed near the end of the episode where Sam found out that the sparking in the oven was caused by a bird-nest which was the same one Norman got stuck in there to begin with, which a scene before it sees Mandy telling Dilys that it was Norman's fault for the spark in the oven, which is an example of amazing writing overall.
  7. Great Ending: As mentioned in WIPADPCOET #1B, Sam playing a trick on Norman and switching his and Dilys' pizzas meant that Norman got his comeuppance for kicking a football at the chimney and causing a fire inside it while he ruined Bella's pizza oven, after eating the chillis on his pizza.

Wrong Qualities

  1. The scenes where Norman accidentally eats chili, while it can be considered funny by many, it can also be considered painful too.
  2. The episode has a small continuity error of Elvis thinking that Sam's chili are tomatoes despite making chili himself in the original series.

Reception

Given how funny and amazing this episode was, the rating for "Pizza Palaver" is 6.8/10 on IMDb and was met with positive critical acclaim.
