Power Rangers Super Megaforce is the 21st season of the Power Rangers franchise. It is the sequel to Power Rangers Megaforce, continuing to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series. It is based on the Super Sentai series, Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger.

Plot

After defeating Warstar, the Rangers discover that they were only the tip of the iceberg as their chain of command make their way to Earth, the Armada, led by Emperor Mavro. A massive empire of enemies from outer space, Gosei realized that it was time make use of the Legendary Ranger Keys that he has lined up in their command center. He presents them the Legendary Morpher that will allow them to use the keys and morph into any past Power Ranger. In their journey to stop the massive Armada from taking over Earth, they will meet past Power Rangers and gain new abilities for their Legendary Megazord.

Along the way, they meet young Orion, who is an Andresian refugee and has the powers of the Silver Ranger. They bond with him and he officially joins the team as their Sixth Ranger.

However they discover that an old enemy of theirs, Vrak had survived the Warstar ordeal and was in reality a member of the Armada royal family. To truly eradicate the Armada, they must deal with Vrak.

In their final battle with Emperor Mavro and his leftover army of X Borgs, the Mega Rangers are met with the reunion of all the Power Rangers gathered together in order to fight this one final threat.

Why It's SUPER MEGA LAME

  1. Much like in the previous season, Gosei is still a useless mentor as he continuously gives his Rangers new powers, zords, upgrades, etc. without any proper buildup and barely doing anything to help them whatsoever and thus once again disregarding his "mentor", Zordon's rule of never escalate a fight unless forced to do so by the enemy.
  2. Also like in the previous season, Troy remains a very dull leader, showing little to no emotion. In the sixth episode of the season, he was rather contradictory over weapons as he lectures his fellow rangers twice, saying that a ranger never lets go of their weapons, despite fighting with his bare hands numerous times before that.
  3. In most fight scenes, the Pre-Zyuranger (even the suits of Himitsu Sentai Gorenger, the very first Sentai series from 1975, as seen in "The Grass is Always Greener... or Bluer" where it featured the Midorenger key) and core Dairanger suits are used, due to very lazy editing and were referred to as “New Powers”. The Wrath made this concept even worse by filming original footage of the Change Griffon, Green Flash (female version), Blue Mask, and Five Yellow suits and replacing VulEagle with Mighty Morphin' Red.
  4. Much like Megaforce, this season heavily relies on Sentai footage. Even in one episode where it features a cameo appearance by Nobuyuki's mother from Foolish Earthlings dubbed!
  5. Same with the previous season, very unfaithful to the original series.
  6. Below average acting.
  7. Useless cartoon sound effects just like the previous season.
  8. No character development, especially when there is a focus episode for one of the Rangers.
  9. Most of the creative concepts that were leftover from originally intended for this season were scrapped.
  10. The title is "super" silly than the previous one and every time the rangers say "Super Mega" it will get you on your last nerve.
  11. Prince Vekar is an extremely unthreatening villain who is just a note-by-note copy of Warz Gill, his Gokaiger counterpart. Speaking of which, his character traits in the Arabic dub of the show have been completely retooled because of this.
    • Speaking of which, Emperor Mavro is not much threatening either. Also, his motivations and goals make just about as much sense as the so-called "new powers".
  12. Not helping BQ#9, the Armada themselves is just a crappy knock-off of the United Alliance of Evil, the villains in Power Rangers In Space.
  13. Robo Knight appears in "The Legendary Battle" at the end of the season, despite sacrificing himself in "Vrak is Back".
  14. Ninjor didn't even made his return in that said series, unlike his Sentai counterpart did.
  15. Nickelodeon cared very little about the show with little to no promotion.
  16. Most of the primary concepts for this season are rushed and unexplained, such as Jake's team colour changing from Black to Green upon morphing from Megaforce Black into Super Megaforce Green and Troy becoming a Super Saiyan to free Robo Knight from Vrak's brainwashing (this is due to Troy's counterpart Alata was harnessing the power of Gosei Angels in Goseiger).
  17. Most of the Sentai terms and traits were carried over in this adaptation. Example: When Troy activates Super Dino Mode as Red Dino Thunder Ranger in United as One, he calls out "Dino Rampage!" It was more of an Abaranger term rather than Dino Thunder's. Even one of the scenes involved Emma as the White Aquitar Ranger from Mighty Morphin' Alien Rangers shooting origamis, which was never done in the show.
  18. The super suits have an odd pirate theme going. This is a carryover from the Sentai version, in which the main Rangers were actual space pirates (and their leader had the quite-honestly awesome name Captian Marvelous).
  19. This show aired concurrently with Ressha Sentai ToQger, another terrible Toku show.
  20. The Legendary Battle finale episode is just a rushed and terrible excuse for a season finale, as the opponents are just mere, easy to beat, X-Borgs. Heck, it was so bad, that even Haim Saban himself hated it and the entire Super season and previous season, especially Power Rangers (Super) Samurai.
  21. And finally, to rub some salt of the wound, not only was this a terrible excuse for an anniversary but an insult to Gokaiger as well as being considered the worst Power Rangers season of all time. Even Operation Overdrive was better than this! And that show was already a disgrace to its Sentai counterpart, Boukenger.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The head writer for Super Megaforce, Jonathon Tzachor, was taken over by Judd Lynn, Therefore, we’ll never have to deal with his incompetent and uncreative writing ever again.
  2. There are some likeable characters, such as Jake, Emma, Gia, Robo Knight and Vrak from the previous season and Orion, Argus, Damaras and Emperor Mavro in this season.
  3. The theme song is kind of catchy, despite being a remix of the theme song for Power Rangers Samurai.
  4. Orion's backstory and acting were over-the-top and it was way better than the core heroes.
  5. The anniversary gimmick with the Ranger Keys was unique.
  6. It Had some good episodes, such as All Hail Prince Vekar.
  7. Some fans of the Power Rangers series may enjoy it.
  8. Unlike the other Neo Saban seasons, it never had a Halloween special nor a Christmas special.
  9. The next season, Dino Charge will become a major improvement.

Trivia

  • It spawned several funny memes, such as the "Super Mega hurry up and destroy them already!"
