Qubo (/ˈkjuːboʊ/ KEW-boh; stylized as qubo) was an American entertainment brand for children between the ages of 5 and 14. Owned by the E. W. Scripps Company, it consisted of a 24-hour free-to-air television network alternatively known as "Qubo Channel" (available as a digital terrestrial television service on owned-and-operated stations and some affiliates of corporate sister Ion Television, as well as on some pay-TV providers), a video on demand service, and a weekly programming block on Ion Television and Ion Plus.
Following Ion Media's acquisition by the E. W. Scripps Company, Qubo Channel ceased operations on February 26, 2021 on AT&T U-Verse and Verizon FiOS. It kept chugging along on Vizio's WatchFree service before silently ending on an episode of Inspector Gadget (1983).
Why It Was A Party For Everyone
- The idea of a free-to-air TV channel that airs both e/i and NON e/i programs is great.
- It along with PBS Kids gave kids who couldn't afford cable some good shows to watch.
- Had some great shows, like:
- Stickin' Around
- Rupert
- My Friend Rabbit
- The BatteryPOP segments
- Sitting Ducks
- Grossology
- Spliced
- Inspector Gadget (1983)
- The Magic School Bus
- Being Ian
- Anne of Green Gables: The Animated Series
- Jacob Two-Two
- The block, Qubo Night Owl, was great.
- The channel aired some shows from the United Kingdom, which was a great way of exposing these shows to American children, such as Postman Pat and (for some reason) the original versions of the United Kingdom of Bob the Builder and Fireman Sam. It also helped children learn British English.
- It was nostalgic for many kids from the United States who didn't have cable.
- The schedule (2006-2018) was very balanced.
- The blocks Qubo on NBC and Qubo on Ion were very memorable.
- All the bumpers (and the 2013-2021 ones to a lesser extent) were very creative and animated cleanly.
- Speaking of the Night Owl block, its lineup had some awesome shows, like He-man, Ghostbusters, Sitting Ducks and others.
- Even in its later years, Qubo was still great and aired lots of nice shows, unlike other networks.
Bad Qualities
- The channel went slightly downhill in 2019 (because of the deletion of Qubo Night Owl).
- It aired some bad/mediocre shows, like The Magic School Bus Rides Again, Bob the Builder (2015), the CGI seasons of Fireman Sam (albeit airing the original UK version), Eliot Kid, Scaredy Squirrel, Pecola, Mickey's Farm, Chirp and The DaVincibles.
- Despite being an network from the United States of America, it would sometimes air the original United Kingdom's dubs of British shows for some reason.
- In later years, (like from 2016 to 2021) they would air each show twice for one hour, which can get annoying and trigger impatience in people waiting for the next show.
- Unfortunately, the channel shut down in February 2021.
- To make matters worse, a YouTube user called Splatkid802 made a very infamous video that showed the characters from various Qubo shows getting brutally murdered and a message telling viewers how "ungrateful" they were, and claimed it was actually how Qubo shut down. In truth, it wasn't.

- Qubo had an Ion Plus block from September 2020 until February 2021.
