Tekken Revolution was a free-to-play fighting video game developed and published by Namco Bandai Games. It was released on the PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Store in June 2013. It is the first game in the Tekken franchise to be made free-to-play and the first to be released exclusively in digital format. It is no longer available in Europe as of 2016. The game ceased operations on March 20, 2017.

Bad Qualities

  1. This is just a watered down version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 made to appeal to hardcore players after how Tekken Tag Tournament 2 flopped.
  2. The game was released in June 2013 for the PS3, almost 1 year after Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and few months after the PS4's released, the game has decreased the amount of players people were playing in Tag 2 and at the same time people moved on to the PS4 quickly which made it the victim of timing release.
  3. The game has microtransactions, while it's understandable since the game is free, but the microtransactions made the game pay to win as you can boost your characters to make them make bigger damages which heavily affect the online multiplayer.
  4. An internet connection is required even when playing solo and since the game needs an internet connection, it's unplayable after it got shut down.
  5. There's no couch multiplayer even though this is a fighting game, the only way to play multiplayer is through online.
  6. The game is lacking in content, arcade mode and online mode are the only mode available at launch, a month after release practice mode (called warm up mode here) was released, while any other mode was a limited time event.
  7. Only 12 characters available at launch, though overtime more were added, but certain iconic characters such as Yoshimitsu didn't appear.
  8. It was shut down within 4 years after release.

Good Qualities

  1. The game is free to play, anyone can play it back then without spending money.
  2. Although the game is pay to win, all of the game's content is free without paying anything (though with grinding)
  3. Unlockables return after being missing from Tekken 5DR, Tekken 6 and Tekken Tag 2.
  4. Unlike other free to play games at the time, you can play anytime you want instead of having to wait for a coin to play.
  5. Introduces some things that would return in future installments such as Turbo mode (a mode that randomly happens where players become faster).
  6. Introduces Eliza, a vampire character who would be a fan favorite and return in Tekken 7.

Reception

The game received mixed to negative reviews, with praise for being closer to arcade roots while criticism for being a downgrade from Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and being a pay to win game.
