The Amazing Spider-Man is an action video game based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, and the 2012 film of the same name. It was developed by Beenox and published by Activision for the Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Android, iOS, and Microsoft Windows in 2012. In 2013, it was ported to Wii U and PlayStation Vita.

This page will focus on the Wii, 3DS and PS Vita ports. While the Wii and 3DS versions were developed by Beenox, the PS Vita port was developed by Mercenary Technology.

Why They Aren't Amazing

Wii/3DS versions

  1. Barebones graphics for a Spider-Man game, and for 2012 standards. The game barely looks like a PlayStation 2 game, despite these are ports for the Wii and 3DS. This is basically an example on how fitting a theme from a different console, like the PS2 can fail, especially how badly the game can be ported.
  2. Spider-Man only has 3 costumes, compared to other versions, which have even more costumes than these ports. This is pretty disappointing, especially to people who played the other versions where there are more than 3 costumes. The Wii and 3DS versions absolutely do not belong in that category at all.
  3. The exploration element (the city map) that other versions have has been removed.
  4. Due to the city being completely removed the Oscorp Phone becomes almost completely useless except from upgrading Spider-Man.
  5. For some reason they thought that it was a good idea to port the 3DS version (which also sucked) to the Wii version while they easily could just port the Xbox 360 or PS3 versions into it much like with many other Xbox 360 and PS3 games that also received a Wii version.
  6. You're forced to take a lot of pictures related to Oscorp. This is just a complete waste of time, and this can get bored very easily, just like the gameplay from the Elf Bowling series.

PS Vita version

  1. The graphics look even worse than the Wii and 3DS versions. They are very ugly, the colors are washed out, and the textures are low-resolution. They also look like an early-mid PS2 game, similiar to the Wii and 3DS versions, which also contain bad graphics, thanks to how badly Mercenary Technology ported The Amazing Spider-Man to the PS Vita.
  2. Sometimes, the loading screens are really long that are on par with Crazy Frog Racer 2, or Sonic '06, which also has long load times. This is just to waste people's time, and would call the loading screens "Boring Simulators", due to them being sometimes long, compared to the Wii and 3DS versions.
  3. Tons of bugs and glitches. They are on par with Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis, Mortal Kombat: Special Forces and Monkey's Adventures, thanks to how badly the game is programmed, due to the developers sadly not having that talent on developing the PS Vita version of The Amazing Spider-Man.
  4. There's a disappointing thing in this version, and it's something that was removed. It's the DLC, which was removed, probably to make the players who played the other versions disappointed that the DLC has been removed in this port. This can be even confusing to some people, and they would even wonder, where did the DLC go, before they would actually realize that it was removed in this version.
  5. Poor framerate that's on par with Yandere Simulator when Yandere Simulator was firstly programmed in a different program. Even Super Mario Sunshine in Super Mario 3D All-Stars when opening the map has a better framerate than this, despite being mediocre when you are opening the map, before being patched in v1.1.0.

Reception

The Wii, 3DS and PS Vita ports of The Amazing Spider-Man received mixed reception from critics. It has a metascore of 58 (Mixed or average reviews) for the Wii version[1] and 55 (Mixed or average reviews) for the 3DS[2] and PS Vita ports.[3]
