Synopsis

Robin gets up the courage to ask Starfire on a date, only to find that she has already agreed to go out with Speedy, Robin's arch rival...so Robin kidnaps Speedy!

Why It’s No Date

  1. This episode kickstarts an awful running gag that recurs throughout the series where Robin “has voices in his head” and it is not funny because it unintentionally makes fun of mental illness as, in the real world, there’s numerous mental and psychological disorders that cause people to hear things that are not there, the most notable example is schizophrenia. However, the way the gag started is very innocent because the voice acts more like his conscious. However, after this, it becomes offensive because the voices “tell him to do horrible/stupid things.”
  2. Speaking of Robin he is horribly unlikable throughout the episode because he acts like a horror movie protagonist all because he was jealous.
    • Granted, jealousy can make people do awful things but what Robin did is very criminal and PEOPLE IN REAL LIFE GET ARRESTED FOR WHAT HE DID.
  3. Starfire’s intentions make no sense either. She’s apparently dating Speedy “as a test to see if she likes Robin.” That’s a very shallow reason to date a person, especially given Speedy already asked her out.
  4. After this, Robin begins acting like a psychopathic criminal.
  5. He kidnaps Speedy, beats him up, strips him, steals his clothes, ties him to a chair, and forces the other Titans to watch him, and make sure he doesn’t call the police.
  6. The jump cuts between the date, and Speedy being kidnapped has no transitions, and is super annoying.
  7. The Scooby-Doo reference in one of the scenes just seems out of place.
  8. Bad ending: Robin just gets a slap on the wrist for his abhorrent actions and Robin’s “voice” dates Starfire.
    • Robin’s punishment was too light for what he did, he deserves a harsher punishment than what he got.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. At least the other Titans try to stop Robin, even though they fail.
  2. Speedy is more likable than Robin.
  3. Despite not being enough, Robin did get his comeuppance for what he did.
