Tom & Jerry Kids is an American animated children's comedy television series co-produced by Hanna-Barbera and Turner Entertainment Co., and starring the cat-and-mouse duo Tom and Jerry as children (kitten and mouse). It began airing as the first program of the Fox children's block, Fox Kids, (known as Fox Kids Network at the time this show aired) on September 8, 1990 and ended on December 4, 1993.
Why It Can Be Here For The Action Is
- It is a huge improvement over The Tom and Jerry Show (1975) and The Tom and Jerry Comedy Show.
- Like the 1975 TV show, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera (the creators of Tom & Jerry) finally brought back their duo, since 1957.
- Is the most positive and under-appreciated cartoon show based on Tom and Jerry classic shorts.
- Brings back the signature charm of the original shorts for the movie theaters.
- Tom and Jerry are cute as kids.
- The little Tom is the most important and more cute.
- Jerry has his bowtie like he did in The Tom and Jerry Show (1975).
- The voice acting is great.
- Great animation. This is one of the few Hanna-Barbera shows that uses full animation rather than their trademark limited animation.
- The New characters in the show are memorable such as Dripple (who originally first appeared unnamed in the Droopy cartoon Homesteader Droopy), Miss Vavoom (actually Red from Tex Avery's Red Hot Riding Hood), Clyde, Kyle, Calaboose Cal, Wild Mouse, etc. even the some of the one-time characters are memorable as well.
- Tyke can now talk in the series for the first time.
- Like The Tom and Jerry Comedy Show, Droopy starring in his own episodes, Spike and Tyke now star in there episodes like they did in 1957 Spike and Tyke (a short-lived spin-off that lasted about two cartoons).
- Some of the also other characters (Aside from Droopy and Dripple, Spike and Tyke) get there time to shine in either one or two episodes. McWolf (actually the Wolf from the 1940s Droopy cartoons and Tex Avery's Red Hot Riding Hood) is an hilarious antagonist for Droopy.
- Many funny and hilarious moments such as McWolf throwing bullets at Droopy saying "We can't have guns in this cartoon".
- Is the first series to feature episodes that one of main cat and mouse duo appearing awhile other is absent, (for example: A Wild Mouse cartoon starring Wild Mouse and Tom), which is interesting to see since the duo are always in a episode together, it gives them more interactions to other characters and giving one one depth as well.
- It spawned a Droopy spin-off Droopy: Master Detective, but sadly, his spin-off series didn't last for very long.
- Catchy theme song, especially saxophone cues and vocals.
- Has a crossover episode: Scrapheap Symphony.
Bad Quatites
- Some of characters like Nibbles Mouse, Karl (Kyle's son), Bernie Bird, Lightningbolt the Squirrel, Stinker Jr. (Mcwolf's son), don't make enough appearances which makes them underused, Especially in Nibbles and Karl as Nibbles only appear in Season 4 epsiode Musketeer Jr. and Karl only appearing in the Season 1 epiosde Puss'n Pups.
- The original characters such as Butch, Quacker, Toodles Galore, Lightning, Topsy, etc. still don't appear in the series. Which was a missed opportunity, but at least the original cast appear again in Tom and Jerry Tales.
- Eliza, from the episode Tom, the Babysitter, was a huge jerk to Tom, when he was protecting and taking better care of the baby than she, who was talking on the phone. She is considered Jeannie's version of this series from the original series, in fact both were negligent with their babysitting work and falsely accuse Tom, who was taking good care of the baby.
Trivia
- The guy who designed the characters from the show from Season 2-4 onwards, Butch Hartman, later created The Fairly OddParents!, Danny Phantom, among other of his Nickelodeon shows.
- This is the first Tom and Jerry series to be produced by Turner Entertainment, after they brought the franchise from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1986. Turner Broadcasting System would later buy Hanna-Barbera in 1991, before they merged with Time Warner (the parent company of Warner Bros.) in 1996.
- The reboot of this series was announced as Tom and Jerry Junior in February 2021, it was currently in development, but still unknown if it had a same connection to Tom & Jerry Kids or something completely different, the only differences is that it would take place in the classroom, so others were not confirmed yet.
