Ubisoft Entertainment SA (formerly Ubi Soft Entertainment SA) is a French video game publisher headquartered in Montreuil, France. It is known for developing and publishing games for several- video game franchises, including Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Just Dance, Prince of Persia, Rayman, Tom Clancy's, Brothers in Arms, and Watch Dogs.

The company was first founded in 1986 by the five Guillemot brothers, originally to diversify their family's business, which, at the time, revolved around agricultural business, to sell other products of use to farmers. Claude began with selling CD audio media. Later, the brothers expanded to computers and additional software that included video games. Their shift towards the video game industry in 1995 proved successful, as the company later became the largest video game company in France in 2005 after dethroning Atari SA.

Why They Used to Be Soft

  1. Rayman, the most interesting mascot platform game ever done by them, was basically Ubisoft's version of Super Mario and Crash Bandicoot.
  2. They made great classic games like the Rayman series, The Fifth Element, POD, Sub Culture, City Racer, Worms Blast, Panzer General (III and 3D), ChessMaster franchise (after 2000), Splinter Cell, Battle Isle: The Andosia War, The Division, Far Cry, Rabbids, Rainbow Six, Hungry Shark, Brothers in Arms, Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia, Driver (as they have owned the rights to the franchise since 2007), Valiant Hearts: The Great War, Child of Light, The Dog Island, Dogz 1 & 2 (GBA), Naruto: Rise of a Ninja and The Broken Bond, No More Heroes, South Park: The Stick of Truth, ZombiU, Beyond Good & Evil, Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie, and more.
  3. Their games often contained great stories, which, in turn, were adapted into movies.
  4. Their sequels were a huge improvement over their predecessors, such as: Assassin's Creed II, Watch Dogs 2, Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Far Cry 2, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, "Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway", "Call of Juarez: Gunslinger" and Red Steel 2.
  5. They created UbiArt Framework, an in-house graphics engine which allowed artists to easily create content and then use it in an interactive environment. It was used to make the modern Rayman games.
  6. They made a dance game about Michael Jackson to honor his memory, Michael Jackson: The Experience, released in 2010
    • They also made The Black Eyed Peas: The Experience for the Black Eyed Peas released in 2011, one year after the Michael Jackson game.
  7. They finally moved rewards from Uplay and over to Ubisoft Club in 2016, which is much better and not as buggy as Uplay. Even Watch Dogs, which formerly used Uplay for its rewards, had its reward system replaced by Ubisoft Club!
  8. The games in their Just Dance franchise, while flawed, were usually still fun to play.
    • In addition, some of the older games (not including the first game of course), such as Just Dance 3 and Just Dance 4, were good.
  9. Back then, in the 90s and especially in the 2000s and early 2010s, they cared about fun, gameplay, variety, interesting concepts, and story, which made most of their games at the time fun to play.
  10. They saved the Driver IP from Atari's clutches in 2007.
  11. Their logos were iconic, especially the 2003 one.

Bad Qualities

  1. Since mid 2017, they have gone downhill by cancelling games such as Rayman 4 & Steep for the Nintendo Switch. What's worse is that they are milking their franchises & using their games to be treated like they are a service.
  2. Even before 2017, they made/published bad/mediocre games, such as Charlie's Angels, Call of Juarez: The Cartel, Imagine Party Babyz, Planet of the Apes, Fighter Within, Fighters Uncaged, Self-Defense Training Camp, Hooters Road Trip, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, Red Steel, V.I.P.
    • They also killed some studios such as Blue Byte Software and Strategic Simulations in 2001.
  3. For many years, they had a bad reputation at E3 for having the most bizarre, cringe-inducing press conferences. Fortunately, they broke that tradition in 2017.
  4. Their digital platform "Uplay", rebranded as Ubisoft Connect, while not bad, used to be very buggy.
