Warner Bros. Animation Inc. is an American animation studio that is part of the Warner Bros. Television Studios, a division of Warner Bros., which is a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery and serves as the animation division and label of Warner Bros.

As the successor to Warner Bros. Cartoons, which was active from 1933 to 1969, the studio is closely associated with the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies characters, among others. Warner Bros. re-established its animation division in 1980 to produce Looney Tunes–related works, and Turner Broadcasting System merged with WBD predecessor Time Warner in 1996. In March 2001, Hanna-Barbera was absorbed into the studio.

In recent years, Warner Bros. Animation has specialized in producing television and direct-to-video animation featuring characters from other properties owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, including Turner Entertainment (which owns the rights to properties created by the MGM cartoon studio), Hanna-Barbera, Ruby-Spears, and DC Entertainment.

Why Their Cartoons Deserve a Carrot

  1. The studio was best known for producing Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies related works.
  2. This includes television shows, direct-to-video films, and theatrical films.
  3. Besides Looney Tunes, the studio has primarily focused on the production of television and feature animation of other properties:
  4. Much like Cartoon Network Studios (which is also owned by Warner Bros. Discovery), most of the shows or movies have some great creators who worked for this studio such as Chuck Jones, Tex Avery, Tom Ruegger, William Hanna, Joseph Barbera, Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Alan Burnett, the late Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, and the others.
  5. Their 2001-2009 logos are very memorable and creative
    • Their 2008-2014 logos are also great.
  6. Tiny Toon Adventures was the first series from WB Animation made in collaboration with Amblin Entertainment, which was founded by three people: Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, and Frank Marshall.
  7. Memorable characters from every property they own:
    • Looney Tunes (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird, Sylvester Pussycat, Porky Pig, Tasmanian Devil, Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, Marvin the Martian, Elmer Fudd, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam, Speedy Gonzales).
    • DC Comics (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl, Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven, Beast Boy, Batgirl, The Joker, The Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Poison Ivy).
    • Hanna-Barbera (Scooby-Doo, Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, Shaggy Rogers, Tom and Jerry, Spike and Tyke).
    • Amblin Entertainment (Buster Bunny, Babs Bunny, Plucky Duck, Yakko, Wakko and Dot Warner, Pinky and the Brain, Freakazoid).
    • and others (Ozzy and Drix, Rikochet, Buena Girl, The Flea, Omi, Kimiko Tohomiko, Raimundo Pedrosa, Clay Bailey, Johnny Test, Dukey, Susan and Mary).
  8. They've also made some original TV shows like Ozzy & Drix (based off on Osmosis Jones), ¡Mucha Lucha!, Xiaolin Showdown, Johnny Test, and Bunnicula (Based on the book of the same name).
  9. It outsourced the animation for its shows to overseas studios like TMS Entertainment, Dong Yong Animation, Koko Enterprises Ltd, Studio 4 °C., Big Star Enterprises, and Digital eMation.
  10. Warner Bros. Feature Animation and its successor, Warner Animation Group produced some great theatrical films based on their shows such as Batman: Mask of the Phantom, Space Jam, Looney Tunes: Back in Action and The Lego Movie.
  11. The logos used by the studio are beautiful and impressive, and pay homage to the Looney Tunes series.
  12. The studio has gotten even better since Turner merged with WarnerMedia (formerly TimeWarner) in 1996, where it now owns everything for the pre-1948 Looney Tunes, the pre-1986 MGM, and the Hanna-Barbera libraries.
  13. Many pieces of merchandise like toys, clothes, books, comics, and video games were made out of their properties such as Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, Tom and Jerry, Animaniacs, DC characters, The Flintstones, ThunderCats, Hanna-Barbera characters, LEGO and more.
  14. The studio has started to reboot or release new shows based on several of their classic properties, such as Looney Tunes Cartoons, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, The Tom and Jerry Show (2014), ThunderCats (2011), and Animaniacs (2020).
  15. Since the 2010s, WB Animation has produced some shows that are targeted at adults such as Mike Tyson Mysteries and Harley Quinn.
    • Speaking of adults, WB Animation has also produced some projects for its popular video game series, Mortal Kombat, after Warner Bros. bought the franchise from Midway Games in 2009.

Bad Qualities

  1. They have gone downhill since the last Steven Spielberg Presents cartoon Histeria! aired its last episode in 2000. They now like to shove original cartoons to the side in favor of more adaptations of existing cash cows and seem to have no real idea of how to handle WB's vault of animated properties (especially Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, and Scooby-Doo). They have also garnered notoriety for their unending stream of annual, low-quality direct-to-video films.
    • They ruined Hanna-Barbera with new looks that are not accurate to their most popular classic looks from the 1950s and 1960s.
    • They distribute and make millions of DVD copies of the WORST Tom and Jerry cartoon, Tom and Jerry: The Movie (1992) which upsets many Blue's Clues Steve fans and also contains many Disney rip-offs and wasting room for important goods in our stores.
    • After Teen Titans Go! premiered on Cartoon Network in 2013, they began poking fun at DC fans and tricking them into thinking a sixth season of the original Teen Titans would happen. They even made Teen Titans Go! To the Movies (which, while good, is a scam that has aged badly due to the two films that came out after it) just to further scam them.
  2. Aside from Teen Titans Go!, some of their other cartoons are bad or mediocre, and they are not limited to
    • Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain
    • Baby Blues (the first adult animated series which premiered in 2000)
    • Loonatics Unleashed
    • Coconut Fred's Fruit Salad Island (the worst cartoon they made)
    • Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!
    • Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!
    • Wacky Races (2017)
    • ThunderCats Roar
    • Little Ellen (also counts as the worst)
    • Teen Titans Go!
    • Velma
    • Baby Looney Tunes, while not terrible, is generally considered to be the weakest of the good WBA shows, since it has the "kid versions of classic characters" trope (while decently well handled), and had tons of problems that were the norm of Loonatics Unleashed.
  3. Ever since the closure of Hanna-Barbera in 2001 and the acquisition of the classic MGM cartoon library, Warner Bros. Animation has done nothing with any of the original HB properties or classic MGM cartoon properties other than Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Wacky Races, and Tom and Jerry, as well as restricting other franchises like Yogi Bear, Droopy, Screwball Squirrel, Barney Bear, and various Tex Avery and MGM cartoon characters to cameos, references, crossovers, DVD re-releases, and other products for the nostalgic audience.
    • At least they released Jellystone!, which featured every Hanna-Barbera character from non-Scooby-Doo cartoons, in 2021 on HBO Max.
