Yacht Rocky is the first episode of the eighteenth season of Family Guy.

Plot

Peter is anxious he will be let go when the brewery announces it will soon be firing one employee. To calm him down, the Griffins go on a Yacht Rock cruise that ends up not going as planned.

Why It's Far Too Rocky

  1. Starting a season off with an episode like this is not a good idea.
  2. There is a lot of filler in the episode, possibly even more so than any other Family Guy episode. In fact, it even has got more than "Seahorse Seashell Party", "All Singing, All Dancing" from The Simpsons, "Get the Hock Out" from Buddy Thunderstruck, and The Pink Couch from SuperMarioLogan combined.
    • Some examples include:
      • Peter arguing with an umpire.
      • Dr. Hartman explaining what a Yacht Rock is.
      • A plethora of times mentioning Bob Welch.
        • In fact, the boat goes out of control BECAUSE of the Bob Welch gag, where the captain goes to grieve with Peter and forgets to drive the boat.
      • Chris trying to throw Chad's head which goes on for much longer than it should have.
      • Cleveland's pointless lecture on apples.
  3. At the end of the episode, Peter and everyone else look like they're going to drown, but out of nowhere they're back on the couch like nothing happened.
    • What's worse is that it doesn't even give a logical explanation as to how they got out of the ship.
  4. Also, it's never explained whether Peter's still at the brewery or not.
  5. Saying that the "internet only allows us to fire white men" is racist, unless it's an affirmative action thing.
    • Therefore, Peter could've easily sued them.
  6. Lois' stupid selfie joke only exists to drag the episode further.
  7. Bonnie is shown blatantly cheating on Joe with another man named Father Monahan and gets away with it, showing her hypocrisy as she was angry at Joe for his affair in Season 10's finale. Her hypocrisy is it's right for her to cheat on Joe but not for him to cheat on her. Joe never finds out about the affair either.
  8. Bert and Sheila are poor replacements for Angela, even though she wasn't much better.
  9. While likeable, Lois laughs at Chad's head when it falls down.
  10. The episode ends with Casey Kasem as a radio host, which is unfunny.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. There's only one cutaway, which actually helped with storytelling purposes.
  2. Kenny Loggins, Nick Viall (whose 39th birthday this episode aired on) and Alan Parsons all voiced themselves, which is a very nice touch.
  3. Peter, Lois, Chris, Meg, Brian, Stewie, Cleveland, Joe, and Quagmire are likeable characters, and Peter, Lois, Brian, and Quagmire aren't flanderized like they usually are.

Reception

IMDb has this episode at a 5.7/10 rating. Two major points of criticism among fans were the bad ending and excessive filler.
