Yin Yang Yo! is a flash animated television series created by Bob Boyle (who also created Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!) and produced by Jetix Animation Concepts. It is the third Jetix-original show. It first aired on August 26, 2006 as a sneak peek and premiered on September 4, 2006 on Jetix in the United States.

Plot

The show is about two orphan rabbit twins named Yin and Yang that train under Master Yo, a old panda who is eventually revealed to be their biological father. They learn the sacred art of Woo Foo, a special type of martial arts that involves both might and magic. They must work together to save the world from evil villains and forces that want to destroy, corrupt, or take it over. However, through all these adventures, Yin and Yang still portray stereotypical siblings; belligerently antagonistic but still ultimately caring about each other and working together when needed.

Why It Balances Between Yin and Yang (The Light and the Dark according to the Chinese)

  1. An interesting concept of orphan bunnies raised by their panda mentor learning a supernatural martial art.
  2. Like most of the comedy-oriented Disney cartoon shows, it has very unique and cartoony animation.
  3. The action scenes are decent.
  4. It shares many similarities with other action shows, such as Avatar: The Last Airbender, Samurai Jack (an adult cartoon), and Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, as they are also shows who have a story-driven plot.
    1. The show using a story-arc based format in a comedy-based show was quite innovative at the time.
  5. Excellent humor, especially from Yin, Yang, and Yo themselves.
  6. Awesome, yet funny theme song performed by NWA.
  7. All the characters have unique and distinct designs from each other.
  8. All episodes have very good morals to teach.
  9. Above decent voice acting and very hilarious writing.
  10. Memorable catchphrases such as "Aw pellets!", "Talk to the hand!" and "HOO! HAA! HOO!".
  11. Bob Boyle's cartoon career started with both this show and Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!, and they were a pretty good start.
  12. There are many great, humorous and interesting villains, like Carl the Evil Coackroach Wizard, Ultimoose, Zarnot, Yuck, Saranoia and more, along with intimidating main villains, The Night Master in Season 1, and Eradicus in Season 2. Some would say the villains are the best part of the show.
  13. It featured great guest appearances of Jason Earles and Mitchel Musso (Jackson and Oliver from Hannah Montana) in the episode, "Yin Yang You".
  14. "Yin Yang Who?" was a great way to wrap up the show.

Bad Qualities

  1. Yang (while likable and funny) can be a bit too much of a jerk at times.
  2. Some action scenes look cheap.
  3. Season 2 is considered by some as weaker than the first due to a weaker-written storyline and Eradicus not being as a threatening villain as the Night Master.
  4. Some gross-out humor, like in the episode "Sweet Stench of Love".
  5. The show often shows many gender stereotypes, mainly portraying men being brutish and immature (which doesn't help because Yang often behaves this way too). This is very explicit by the existence of awful and stereotyped villains such like Ultimoose and Saranoia.
    • There are also old people stereotypes in some episodes, mainly in episodes with Kraggler.
  6. There are characters like Dave, Coop, Carl and Ultimoose (even though the last two are villains) that are often portrayed as butt-monkeys.
  7. Sometimes the show makes excessive references to pop culture.
  8. It can be too comedic for its own good, as some scenes intended to be somewhat dramatic can be undercut by constant little gags.
  9. "Yin, Yang Who?", while a great way to wrap up the show, did kind of end the show on a cliffhanger since the ending does feel a bit rushed and we never see Yin, Yang and Yo properly face the new villain. This is most likely because the show was originally going to have a third season, but then it seemed like it'll never return for a third season since season 2 would be its last.
