Bad Piggies is a puzzle video game developed and published by Rovio Entertainment for iOS, Android, Microsoft Windows and macOS on September 27, 2012. It was released for BlackBerry macOS in October 2013 and for Windows Phone in April 2014. It's a spin-off to the Angry Birds series.

Plot

Ground Hog Day

During a sunny day, Ross and Mechanic Pig were carrying King Pig's Throne Chair with him on it, until they passed a telescope. King Pig went to use it and saw the eggs on top of the hill. He told Mechanic Pig to make a Map to the eggs, but Ross got curious with the Fan and turned it on, tearing the map, and scattering the pieces everywhere on Piggy Island. The Piggies must journey to retrieve the pieces of map and make their way to the eggs.

Rise and Swine

Ross, Mechanic Pig and one of the Minion Pigs were hungry. They tried to make a "sand-cake" but it just tastes like obviously sand. Then, Mechanic Pig smelled some cakes from Chef Pig who just passed them, making the piggies go after him by riding a contraption. Another Chef Pig then says that the cakes were for the King Pig, and King Pig would be very mad if he wouldn't get his cakes. Ross must now collect pieces of cakes to make a bigger cake for King Pig with Mechanic Pig and Minion Pig.

When Pigs Fly

After the events of "Ground Hog Day", the pigs have reached the supposed location of the eggs, but however, they were not there. The spyglass now indicates that the eggs have been moved elsewhere, so Mechanic Pig started drawing another map. However, with what happened with the paper map last time, King Pig orders the pigs to draw the map on the side of a wooden crate, and then break the map off of the crate to take with them. However, when Ross tries to break the map of the crate, the TNT blows up in the pigs' faces, the pieces of the map are scattered everywhere, forcing the pigs to set off to recover the broken pieces of the map.

Flight in the Night

After realizing that the telescope has painted eggs on the lens, they took the advantage of the night to steal the eggs, where they found Red & Chuck sleeping beside the eggs. Ross sneakily approach them and stole one of their eggs. The pigs are excited and King Pig suggests to put it at their contraption while making their way to escape from the birds before they will take their egg back. However, when King Pig tries to break the egg, the hammer breaks, and the Blues were laughing, which means that it was another one of their pranks, and it was successful.

Tusk 'til Dawn

Ross went on trick-or-treating in the night of Halloween. After he collected enough candies, he enjoyed them. After eating too many candies, Ross felt sick and goes unconscious. In his dream, he needs to find a dreamcatcher in order to wake up from his nightmare. He travels around a landscape made of candy, occasionally coming upon the birds, all while keeping his pumpkin full of candy by his side. Later, Ross crashes and wakes up to some zombie pigs eating his candy. Angrily, he kicks the pumpkin, which bounces back and hits him in the head. After that, it doesn't appear in any levels. All of the things happened in it was actually Ross' dream, where in the final cutscene, we can see him waking up and noticing Mechanic Pig and one of the pigs playing outside.

The Road to El Porkado

King Pig noticed that something, most likely a vase or a trinquet, went missing in his palace and he has turned the palace upside-down without luck. Ross with a hat and a rubber duck is now going to set out on The Road to El Porkado to find a replacement for it. After 12 levels, Ross goes to a cave, where he finds a large golden pig statue. Ross then decides to take it as a replacement for the vase or a trinquet. He then gives it to King Pig in place of the missing object while he was eating desserts, surprising him.

Why It Proves That Pigs Can Fly

  1. Wonderful cartoon-like graphics on par with Mega Man 11.
  2. Catchy, unforgettable and relaxing soundtrack that would calm you by just listening to them, most notably the building theme or the chapter selection.
  3. The power-ups on most levels are very useful:
    • Super Glue makes the vehicle impossible to break, no matter how many times you will hit the wall or a lot of TNTs, with the exception of springs.
    • Turbo Charges makes the engines more faster, which gives the vehicle even more speed;
    • If Ross is nearly or passes the dessert, star box in a level or sandbox, daily loot crate or cake race cake, it will follow him, passing through objects, if you will start the level with Magnet selected, making it easier to get them if you don't want to struggle trying to get any of them;
    • Super Mechanic can make you get 2 or 3 stars if you are struggling to get all 3 stars, or even 2, making him build a perfect vehicle that would make you want to use it even in the sandbox;
    • The Night Vision Goggles, which can be used only in the dark levels, gives a lot of light, making the darkness nowhere to be seen, making it also easier to notice a TNT or a star box, or even how the entire level looks like. All of them are very helpful, and they are pretty fun to use, especially in sandboxes;
      • And on top of that, you can get them in the dessert Mode mini-game by feeding King Pig cake a lot of times until he will burp out them, buy them for coins in the shop, or even get some of them for free if you are struggling to beat the level, which is a very novel idea.
  4. Speaking of the dessert mode mini-game, it can be pretty hilarious, especially if you have a high chance of laughing. For example, feeding King Pig makes him bigger and bigger until he will finally burp out something, like Power-ups (as mentioned before), scrap, coins, XP, or even useless junk, and then he returns to normal size again. Aall the pigs even laugh a lot of times, and there's even the Chef Pig showing up, and then hiding. King Pig can also do cool things, like showing a tongue, laugh, or even yawn. And the voices of him screaming when you drop the dessert onto the floor, or even hold the dessert for too long is pretty humorous.
  5. It can be used for very useful things, like to make some inventions that can be later broken, a fight of Ross and something else (like King Pig, a egg or the Halloween pumpkin bag) or even something that can destroy cars, helicopters or planes. For example, a user by the name of Smankusors uses the game for some ideas that he came up with, or did requests from his fans (mostly in his 10 Requested Creations series). This is a novel idea, especially if you wanna share your inventions with people on the internet.
  6. Since the v2.0, Loot Crates and the workshop were added. Loot Crates can give you scrap, dessert for King Pig, or new parts. Speaking of the workshop, it lets you create new parts for items you can choose to build your invention or a vehicle to complete a level, which is a novel idea, since you can select any parts for the items to build your invention, or whatever you want to do with them. This is pretty cool than just using original body parts, although using original body parts is as cool as different ones.
  7. The sound effects, "KRAK", "SNAP" and "BANG" onomatopoeias are pretty well made both design and soundwise:
    • "KRAK" is colored in yellow with a brown outline, and fragments extend from it. It appears if wood breaks, or if the metal drops Ross.
    • "SNAP" is colored in white with a grey outline. Nuts, bolts, and fragments extend from it. It only appears if a object and metal breaks, compared to "KRAK".
    • "BANG" is colored in white with a red outline. Stars and fragments come out of it. It only appears when the Boxing Glove punches something or if the Grappling Hook grab something.
  8. It contains a game mode called "Sandbox", which lets you create a car, bike, plane or helicopter using your imagination. And there's a level called "Field of Dreams", where it has a larger building grid, more items and bigger size, letting players make insane creations. And on top of that, "Field of Dreams" costs only $2.99, meaning it's very cheap to purchase.
  9. The idea where the pigs are protagonists and the birds are antagonists is a very cool idea, especially for an Angry Birds spin-off, or for people who wanted to play an Angry Birds game, or a spin-off where the pigs are protagonists instead of birds. That idea is very enjoyable, which is like Rovio actually listened to their fans to make an Angry Birds game or a spin-off where the birds are antagonists, and the pigs are protagonists.
  10. The game used to have the "TESLA" thing, which makes your vehicle go extremely fast. To do it, you explode a TNT, then turn on the TESLA engines, and your vehicle goes extremely fast, much like Sonic the Hedgehog, or volt bike in a Roblox game Jailbreak. Detacher can turn on the slow mode, which means the TESLA engines will not make your vehicle go fast again, as once you activate the detacher, you won't be able to use the TESLA engines again unless you will retry the sandbox. Also, sometimes if you explode a TNT, if any parts are broken, the TESLA engines won't work. However, the TESLA engines can no longer be used, due to the "TESLA" thing being fixed once "Cake Race" was introduced, although there is a possible way to get the old versions before the Cake Race was even introduced. However, TESLA engines can be still used in Bad Piggies mods like BPMLE and BPR.
  11. The game contains a mode named "Cake Race", which is a game mode where you can connect with other people around the world using the Internet. It's basically a race where you collect cakes and try to win the race, without letting your opponent win. After you win the race, you earn 100 XP, and a Loot Crate. You have up to 4 crate slots, but if you want to still open the Loot Crate if all crate slots are full, you can spend some snout coins to buy it and get scrap and other stuff. If you don't want to open it, just discard the Loot Crate anyways and wait until one will be able to be opened and you will open it.
  12. The game receives tons of updates, mostly on the Android and iOS versions to make the game even better, such as fixing some bugs or adding some features. This is basically to prove even more that Rovio listened to their fans to fix the bugs and glitches the game contains, or even add some features that the gamers can easily enjoy, most notably the workshop or the Cake Race.
  13. The menu where you can buy snout coins is really great, and each of them has different stuff going on.
    • 400 snout coins - Ross puts or takes the snout coin from his piggy bank while smiling.
    • 1100 snout coins - There are some snout coin mountains with Ross being shocked while seeing them.
    • 2400 snout coins - Ross is in the barrel with snout coins, looking at the player.
    • 5500 snout coins - Ross is in a bank that contains several snout coins, looking like he's trying to hide.
    • 15000 snout coins - King Pig is seen taking a shower and a bath of snout coins, and he enjoys it, and the snout coin shower doesn't stop.
  14. Ever since the XPs were introduced, you can have any level you want. Once you will reach a new level, you are able to take a spin using the spinning wheel and collect scrap, dessert or some power-ups. If it stops on a star, then that means you got a jackpot, and you get a body part. You can re-spin the spinning wheel by spending some snout coins, in case if you would want to try to hit another jackpot, or earn some more stuff.

Bad Qualities

  1. There are some levels that can be extremely hard to figure out how to get 3 stars without a walkthrough or the Super Mechanic power-up, most notable The Road to El Porkado-18 and The Road to El Porkado-23. This can be hard for newbies, and for newer players if they don't figure out that well how to beat those levels with 3 stars without a walkthrough or the Super Mechanic power-up.
  2. Some doors used to be buggy and glitchy in The Road to El Porkado. The gates would glitch out or go in the wrong place, making some levels extremely difficult, or even impossible to complete, no matter how many times you would restart the level, or even the entire game. Thankfully, this was fixed in v2.3.5.
  3. Rovio no longer supports the PC version, meaning they only support the mobile version. This can be pretty disappointing to those people who played the PC version a lot of times and don't have a mobile phone or a tablet at all, but thankfully, you can still download and play it.
  4. Some of the Loot Crates can be difficult to get. This means, you have to create a good construction if you want to get some of the Loot Crates. This can be difficult to newbies, especially if they haven't collected them yet at all.
  5. The "Cake Race", while not a bad mode, can be unfair at times. You can sometimes have a opponent that has level 55, making the victory impossible, unless he/she will decide to leave the race if you have like level 15. There can be opponents with like level 6, and if you would have like level 30, then the victory for your opponent will be just impossible (unless you will leave the race).
    1. There was a moment where the player would get stuck with the same opponent making it harder to get more crates. Thankfully, this was fixed in later versions.
  6. For some reason, some things, such as the pigs' body parts and snout coins in their buying menu can disappear, which is extremely weird. This can confuse the players very easily.

Trivia

  • Bomb can be seen in Flight in the Night-8, and he even has his own game files. However, in later levels, he doesn't appear. The possible reason why is because he would be too overpowered since he can explode, and would destroy your whole vehicle if you're not careful.
  • King Pig's screams in the dessert mode can be even heard in sandboxes and some levels where you can get a star if you will get to the goal gate with Ross and King Pig. This happens if you will drive or fall too fast.
  • The birds use Matilda's voice even though she doesn't appear in the game at all. Weird.
