"Beach Hero" (French: "Zig ce Héros") is the second episode from season two of Zig & Sharko and the eightieth episode overall. It was written by Hugo Gittard and storyboarded by Cédric Dietsch.
Plot
In this episode, Zig becomes a hero to Marina and all the beachgoers after unintentionally saving a little crab, so he uses this new-found popularity to reverse the roles and make Sharko look like the bad guy.
Why It's Definitely Not A Hero
- Almost every main characters are completely unlikable and this at different period of the episode, which make their personality inconsistent in comparison to other bad episodes of the series.
- Zig at first appear to be a likable character who get tortured by Sharko for no other reasons other than his false though, but in the second half he is at his absolute worst and try to make Sharko look like the bad guy, while he did this in other episodes, it wasn't to the same extend like here.
- He also ignore Bernie, when he is his best friend, until at the end, although it is probably because Bernie doesn't come to Zig to be with him.
- Sharko in the first half was unlikable, thinking that Zig did evil stuffs to kill childrens such as having poison in ice cream, when in reality he didn't done anything evil, and because of this, he was unintentionally the bad guy here.
- Zig at first appear to be a likable character who get tortured by Sharko for no other reasons other than his false though, but in the second half he is at his absolute worst and try to make Sharko look like the bad guy, while he did this in other episodes, it wasn't to the same extend like here.
- It's a torture episode for many characters, exemples include:
- The first half, it was a Zig torture episode because Sharko did though that he did evil things to children when in reality he did nothing wrong and it looked like Sharko was jealous of Zig success.
- Sharko also got his fair amount of torture too, since he got rejected and it looked like he was the bad guy, until in the end when Marina called him for saving everyone.
- Bernie is also a victim of this due to him being rejected by Zig (although probably unintentional).
- Plot Holes:
- How Marina can be scared of Sharko when they watched a shark movie, when she was with him all along, this is not explained but howewer she might probably didn't know how a shark can kill peoples, same for the other peoples, how can they be scared of him if they seen him for a long time ?
- Also, how Zig is considered a hero when he is know for trying to eat Marina ?
- Misleading title: While it is indeed a plot based on being a hero, Zig mostly offer fun to childrens and doesn't save the childrens or any other peoples.
- In addition, the english title is even more misleading cause it doesn't say who is the hero, in comparison the French title is less misleading because it actually say that Zig is the hero.
- The slapstick is mostly funny in this show, then guess what, this episode slapstick come of as more mean-spirited than funny, thank to the shockingly poor writting of this episode, when Hugo was know for writting some great episodes such as "The Island Tour", "The Were-Yena" or "What A Day!!".
- The scene where Sharko did stop childrens from eating ice creams can be funny to watch but it still mean-spirited and come off as a torture for them.
- Wasted Potential: The episode had Zig portrayed as a hero, which could have made a great episode but it isn't really an episode about saving peoples and instead it was Sharko who saved the childrens, the episode named "Super Zig" did this concept better, even if Zig was more evil than a hero in that episode.
- The ending is mediocre because it mostly came at the last minute and it almost show Zig hypocrisy, although there's something that save it from being completely bad since he still got Bernie as his friend.
Redeeming Qualities
- The main characters are likable (except Zig and Sharko at some certains points).
- The scene where Sharko did stop childrens from eating ice creams, while mean-spirited, can actually be funny to see due to some of the ways that he use to stop them from eating it.
Trivia
- This is the second time Marina tells Sharko not to beat Zig up and puts him down and petting him, the first was in “Moby Zig”
- First episode where Marina only punishes Zig for going too far, the first one being "Save the Hyena!" with Bernie.
