Big City Greens is an American animated comedy adventure television series created by the Houghton brothers that premiered on Disney Channel on June 18, 2018. The series features the voices of Chris Houghton, Marieve Herington, Bob Joles, and Artemis Pebdani. The series was renewed for a second season by Disney Channel on May 17, 2018.
Plot
The series focuses on Cricket Green, a mischievous but optimistic country boy who moves to the big city along with his family.
Why It’s Green (In A Good Way)
- One of the most important and well-known things that this series has is its animation, since it looks very beautiful and cute, especially for the 2018 standards, since this series has the character designs since its very reminiscent of the aesthetic of The Simpsons and also features a bright color palette that won't sting your eyes and not to mention has a cool art-style. Also, the backgrounds are also looks great of this series just paying a lot of attention.
- Great characterization. For example, Cricket Green is a typical goofy kid but at the same time, he is very mature when he needs to be and learns the most important lessons out of everyone, and Tilly's personality is very cute.
- The secondary and recurring characters like Remy, Gloria, and Officer Keys are very likable as well.
- Every character's skin is a different color such as purple, brown, orange, blue, and many others, which makes the show's universe unique in its own way, similar to another Disney show, Teacher's Pet. In fact the yellow skin of the Green family resembles the color of corn, which draws connection with farming.
- The theme song is catchy, seeing as it was made by The Mowgli's.
- It has a unique sense of humor that's similar to some of Wander Over Yonder and even The Amazing World of Gumball.
- Despite being out of place at times, the voice acting is incredible.
- The episode plots are entertaining, engaging, and sometimes unpredictable.
- The problems in the show can be relatable at times.
- The show is entirely based on a Western country family trying to adapt to a more modern area, almost making it a western version of We Bare Bears.
- Season 2 is wholesome, with its many great episodes, the introduction to BigTech and its CEO, Gwendolyn Zapp, and of course, the Chipocalypse arc.
- There are tons of great episodes, such as "Chipocalypse Now" and "Green Christmas".
- The show teaches tons of great morals, such as:
- Dinner isn't about the food, it's about the family you spend it with. (Steak Night)
- Give credit where credit is due. (Breaking News)
- Don’t change yourself to get people to like you. (Tilly Style)
- Don’t forcibly remove people’s flaws. (Green Mirror)
- Don't judge a book by its cover. (The Van)
- Don’t say swear words for fun. (Bleeped)
- Be safe, but not too safe. (Hurt Bike)
- Don’t let popularity get the better of you. (Ding Dongers)
- Don’t eat nothing but fast food. (Fast Foodie)
- Don’t be too strict when it comes to rules. (Mages and Mazes)
- Use criticism to help yourself improve. (Boss Life)
- Don't force people to always feel positive. (Papaganda)
- No matter how hard a task is, never give up. (Green Greens)
- The film, Big City Greens: The Movie: Spacecation is a huge step-up to the original series. It helps that the animation got better and more smoother, and more character development.
Bad Qualities
- With the exception of the intro and outro, the soundtrack can feel pretty forgettable and poor at times, as the main instrument being played is a banjo. While banjo music isn't bad by itself, this banjo music feels rather unimpressive.
- Cricket and Gramma’s voices sound out of place. Fortunately, the voice acting on many characters is still incredible.
- Chip Whistler, despite being a good antagonist, can be annoying, evil, and immoral at times. For example, some episodes, he can break his tooth many times and get angry about his tooth, which can be repetitive and dull. Also, sometimes, his behavior can be cruel and unacceptable, he can already be a insane and a liar, already that after forgiving the Greens, he later lies, however, it makes sense as he has plans to undo the Greens and seeks revenge, so...
- While likable, Cricket Green can sometimes come off as unlikable, due to his reckless behavior.
- Speaking of which, some of the other characters are a bit flawed like:
- Gramma may come across as a animated version of J. Cole and Joyner Lucas due to how she doesn't like modern things at all.
- Remy may come across as a yes-man to Cricket Green when it comes with their antics.

- While there are many episodes that are entertaining, there are some weird episodes, there are some examples:
- "Wild Side" is one example, as in the ending of this episode, all of the Greens are making vandalism and we see a naked Gramma!
- "Spaghetti Theory" is a strange example, and there are some illogical moments, for example, when Mr. Grigorian gets upset about what happens above, but later, he gets stuck on his sofa, but then his sofa is completely in his body, but if his body got trapped on the couch, how has he not broken his bones? However, it is a good episode unlike "Wild Side". Plus it does have a good moral that you should not be a coach potato and do your responsibilities, no matter how stressing it is to you.
- "Cricket's Biscuits" is one of the worst examples of this, as the entire episode revolves around Cricket and Tilly trying to get "hurt" so that they could get biscuits. Not only that, but when Bill explains his story of how he broke his finger, and that he had a biscuit after that, he then says in a creepy voice "Surely I don't need all of them", while holding a knife, which heavily implies real-life self-harm, making this extremely inappropriate for a kids show.
- Similar to Pucca, the episode, Dream Weaver, had a jump-scare in the end involving the creature Cricket was portraying in Tilly's dream which could be too scary and disturbing for the show's target audience, which is extremely unacceptable in a children's series. Fortunately, this scene was cut in the UK and the Middle East.
- While still a good episode, "Cricketsitter" has elements possibly taken from The Simpsons episode "My Sister, My Sitter", though the former is done far better than the latter.
- In recent years, it's been Disney Channel's victim of network favoritism. Based on how much attention & airtime it gets. Similar to how Nickelodeon treats SpongeBob & how Cartoon Network treats Teen Titans Go. And it overshadows better Disney shows like Amphibia, The Owl House, & The Ghost and Molly McGee. As they don't get much attention or airtime if you compare them to Big City Greens.
- Since this show is targeted towards kids, it tries to be hip & trendy with them. Including a version of TikTok called DingDong, a version of Nintendo Switch called Blintendo Twist, and a version of MrBeast
