The Walt Disney Company, commonly known as Disney, is an American diversified multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt and Roy O. Disney. They're well known for making great films and having a huge legacy. Mickey Mouse serves as the company's official mascot.

Why They Used to Be Magical

  1. This studio was an enormous start to the legacy of animation in Hollywood, thanks to the late Walt Disney starting animated films there. In other words, it was the first ever animation studio in Hollywood history.
  2. While the banner maintains a family-friendly image, generally releasing G and PG-rated films, some of the films got a PG-13 rating from the MPAA such as Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Saving Mr. Banks, and The Finest Hours. They never release any R-rated movies ever.
  3. The animated films made by Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar and 20th Century Fox Animation.
  4. Their acquired subsidiaries, including Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Fox, and Fox Searchlight Pictures.
  5. Great acting and music from most of the films.
  6. Despite making some unnecessary and pointless direct-to-DVD or live-action remakes, there are some good direct-to-DVD or live-action remakes, such as An Extremely Goofy Movie, 2015's Cinderella remake, 2016's The Jungle Book remake, or even then.
  7. The current logo itself is beautiful and unique. A majestic version of "When You Wish Upon a Star" is used for the underscore accompanied by exploding fireworks.
  8. They have their own amazing streaming service, Disney+, which was launched in late 2019.
  9. Back then, Disney was clever enough to make adult movies without putting their name on it by by using its division, Touchstone Pictures.
  10. Aside from Disney live-action remakes, there are many great or decent live-action films, like the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, McFarland, USA, Tomorrowland, etc.
  11. Like major studios, it is considered the most important and successful company of all time.
  12. Two words: Walt Disney.
  13. Though not related to the movie/animation industry, they shut down Club Penguin Online, an infamous Club Penguin private server whose owner (Riley) is nothing more than a fraud and a criminal after the allegations went viral months before, even it if took them 2 years to shut down the site.
  14. They still make great fully original animated movies even to this day, which is what they, as a company, are best known for. The prime example is Pixar.
  15. They are willing to forgive someone who has committed a mistake, unlike other companies who terminate people and are not willing to forgive them, as shown when they fired James Gunn for posting gross jokes on his Twitter back in the early 2010s but forgave him and ultimately reinstated him back so he could continue working on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
    • Taking this into account, if Johnny Depp ultimately succeeds in exposing Amber Heard (which becomes more than likely since he managed to buy back the call logs involving her number despite the lack of video evidence) Disney may be willing to forgive him just like they did with Gunn, and maybe (just maybe) Amber Heard would be fired for good.
  16. Most of their films and shows are still great such as the films/shows from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, The Muppets, 20th Century Fox, and even their streaming service, Disney+. The same can be said about other media including Kingdom Hearts.
  17. Though some actors have been recently accusing Disney of not paying them their full salaries for their decision to stream some of their 2021 theatrical movies in Disney+ due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it should be noted that Disney likely does so because they know that some of their audiences live in other countries and territories where theaters have yet to be open or can't go to the movies, which proves that Disney also cares about its audience.
  18. In January 2021, Disney revived its old video game publisher Lucasfilm Games (also known as Lucasarts), and terminated Electronic Arts' exclusive license to Star Wars video games due to the Battlefront 2 loot box controversy.
  19. They did express concern over ImageMovers Digital's usage of motion capture animation, which is why IMD absorbed back to ImageMovers. The reason behind this would have to be the criticism of full-on motion capture animation, most likely due to uncanny valley (especially with Mars Needs Moms since it bombed at the box office).
  20. The reason why Club Penguin was shut down by Disney is justified. Adobe Flash is getting outdated, the fanbase was getting low, it went downhill in 2013, and it was costing way too much to continue maintenance. Luckily the game got revived known as: New Club Penguin.
  21. They ignored to distribute or produce the infamous film Escape from Tomorrow, which led the film to fall into obscurity.
  22. They still allowed Nintendo to add Sora from Kingdom Hearts in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate which does show that they are not too stingy. His inclusion in the game was met with very positive reception, especially after the reveal that he won the Super Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U in 2015, although neither most of the pre-existing Disney material is referenced nor mentioned, aside of the keychain on Sora's Keyblade. The reason why Disney elements like Donald and Goofy do not appear in Sora's movie set is most likely because the Disney elements are not related to video games when compared to the original characters who originated from a video game series.
  23. They called out the directors, producers, and crew of The Autobots for copying their own Cars franchise.
  24. Thanks to them, when Disney+ came out in 2019, they listened to Simpsons fans' criticisms with the 16:9 cropped episodes of older Simpsons episodes from 1989-2009 and gave viewers the option to watch the 4:3 produced episodes in their original format or the widescreen/cropped version on May 30th, 2020. That does show Disney had seen full potential with The Simpsons in a good way there.
  25. Unlike The Simpsons in terms of broadcasting and rerunning on FXX (despite that already happening before Disney bought that show in 2015), Family Guy's 4:3 produced episodes did not suffer from being cropped into widescreen by either FXX or Disney themselves.
  26. After the three Pixar movies, Soul, Luca, and Turning Red got released on Disney+, they managed to release Lightyear into theaters exclusively meaning that they give Pixar the "okay" to release the film on the big screen, which is good. The same might be said for Elemental, despite the trailer hasn't been released yet.
  27. Shows like Gravity Falls, Phineas and Ferb, Amphibia, The Owl House, VikingSkool, The Ghost and Molly McGee, Kim Possible, American Dragon: Jake Long, Big City Greens, Recess, Pepper Ann, and countless others starts here.
  28. Their acquisition of 21st Century Fox has a lot of potential, for example, it opens the doors for Anastasia to become a Disney Princess, marking the first Disney Princess to be acquired and the first Russian Disney Princess, the first Slavic Disney Princess, and the first Disney Princess to come from Eastern Europe. This is notable due to Don Bluth and Disney being fierce rivals ever since Don Bluth resigned from Disney in 1979.
  29. Our childhoods wouldn't/won't be the same without Disney.
  30. They were still a great studio till 2016.

Bad Qualities

  1. They have sadly been making some bad decisions since 2003 due to Roy E. Disney (Roy O's son and Walt's nephew) leaving his position as vice chairman when they began milking their franchises and mistreating their subsidiaries like 20th Century Studios (formerly 20th Century Fox) among other things. They have since been widely regarded as one of the greediest companies out there. Though the studio is still good, and they were still great in 2000s till 2016 onwards.
  2. They have made/produced some bad, mediocre, or forgettable movies such as:
  3. In 1991, they broke the late Roy E. Disney's promise to his uncle to never give licenses for Fantasia by giving the license to Sega to develop a game based on the film for the Sega Genesis due to the success of Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse and the rerelease of the film in theaters on home video to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Fantasia. Sega decided instead of developing the game in-house like with Castle of Illusion, they outsourced the development of the game to Infogrames and the game was rushed for the 1991 holiday season. The game was poorly received with most of the criticism going to the poor renditions of the film's music, bad gameplay, and horrendous controls. After finding out about the game's existence and the negative reception towards it, Roy E. Disney demanded Sega to recall all unsold copies of the game and destroy them, and thankfully in return, Disney would give Sega more Disney licenses at no further cost. This is often believed to be the reason why Disney Interactive was founded.
  4. Even before their downfall in 2017, they released lots of bad direct to dvd sequels in late 90s and 2000s.
