Good Qualities

  1. The graphics are really good for the time, and some of the most colorful you could ever see in the Game Gear, as they are detailed and had great colors palette, the sprites work is also really good and even had cute sprite due to them being small, the next Doraemon game on the Game Gear, Doraemon: Wakuwaku Pocket Paradise looks even better graphically.
  2. While the jump is a bit floaty, the controls are still pretty decent with them being tight and responsive which mean that it's will not being unresponsive once with the exception of the climbing controls, which are poor, but the controls are still decent in general for this game standards.
  3. The gameplay is pretty good as it's pretty fun, but it's also one of the most traditional platformers in the franchise, since most of them had very original gameplay compared to this game, but still, the gameplay is really decent and you can have a good time playing this game.
  4. The soundtrack, while a bit repetitive, is decent with most of the tracks being really catchy to listen to, there's also a very nice rendition of the Doraemon theme song.
  5. If you collected a weapon, you can get 1 extra hit point, making the game a bit easier, although the game for the most parts is easy, but not in all the levels. This is a great mechanics and it's pretty original, because most platformers don't even have this mechanics, not even the other Doraemon games.
  6. Really good level design that make the levels fun to play and is designed carefully to be fitting for the controls and the gameplay of the game, the only levels that are not that great are level 4-2 and level 4-3.
  7. The hit detection might be really broken, but it still really great, since it's generous with the amout of hit-box you had, and even if it looks like that you will not hit your enemy, you will still hit them, thanks to the great hit detection.
  8. The difficulty is challenging and balanced, despite being unfair at times such as in level 4-3, or the fact that you die in one hit.
  9. If you collect all the 5 dorayakis in the levels you get a extra life, which is nice because if you run out of lives, you had to restart an entire area.

Bad Qualities

  1. The game is horribly short, even for a Game Gear game, as you can simply beat it in only 25 minutes.
  2. The bosses leave a lot to be desired in comparison to most Doraemon games, as they are extremely easy to beat and it's also very easy to dodge their attacks to the point that you will barely get hit by them, although they are still better than in the Sega Genesis game.
  3. Misleading box art: While Nobita and Shizuka appear un the box art, they are nowhere to be seen in game with the exception of their portrait that you can be found in some of the levels that give you checkpoints, but they are sometime too hard to know where they are.
  4. The ending is quite poor since it's just a picture of Doraemon going back to the future and that's about it, not even a congratulations screen, the credits play on it though.
  5. The game can be glitchy at times, especially with the hit detection.
  6. Unlike the SNES Doraemon games, Doraemon's friends don't appear that much other than in a portrait when you found them in some of the levels.
  7. Most levels don't have checkpoints, the only one that has them are the one where you can find a portrait and that's about it, it doesn't help that you die in one hit.
  8. While challenging and balanced, the difficulty can be unfair at times, especially in the level 4-3, which is the absolute worst level of the game due to how frustrating it is.

Trivia

  • The box art is a bit similar to the one of the Sega Genesis games, mostly because Doraemon does the same pose as the latter.
  • This is the only one of the two Doraemon game on the Game Gear to be a platformer, since Wakuwaku Pocket Paradise will be a party game.
