"Let Sleeper Dogs Lie" is the twenty-fifth episode in the ninth season of The Fairly OddParents.

Plot

Crocker learns that Sparky was once his fairy dog when he was a child and can regain control of him using a secret trigger word.

Why It Lied

  1. Its primary criticism is that it completely retconned a previously well-established episode, notably the beloved special "The Secret Origin of Denzel Crocker" from Season 3.
    • The plot specifically made to "change" how Crocker originally lost Cosmo and Wanda.
      • It's yet another Crocker-centric plot with Sparky also shoehorned in.
  2. It is revealed in this episode that at 11 years old, kids lose their fairies because they are old enough to go to therapy. This alone completely contradicts what was stated in another beloved special, "Channel Chasers", in that godchildren grow up to the point they no longer have any interest or believe in magic and forget about their fairies, who are called back to Fairy World.
    • Why didn't Crocker just use his tape to prove to anyone that fairies exist?
  3. Likewise, Crocker's 11-year old self went from a passionate, brave, and goodhearted child who wanted to help others into an egoistic brat who is rude to his fairies and only summons them just for fun.
    • The scene where 11-year old Crocker suggests for Jorgen to take away his mother so that he can keep Cosmo and Wanda to represent his selfishness and this irritable running gag of him referring to Cosmo and Wanda as "Lazlo" and "Brenda" respectively to showcase his jerkiness.
  4. Unfunny, idiotic, and repetitive jokes as usual; in this episode's case, the "Underpants" joke, as well as the "belly dance" joke from Mr. Crocker's mother, which is very inappropriate for a kids show.
    • Speaking of the "Underpants" joke, Cosmo even sings an annoying song called "The Underpants Dance".
  5. The scene where Cosmo and Wanda admit to Timmy that fairies' brains are made of helium which is why they can't remember Timmy's name and how they are able to float is just so the Sindy Spackman can present to the viewers on how much she like to dumb down the characters.
  6. Predictable and idiotic ending.
  7. The entire setup of the episode makes it feel more like an approved trollfic than an actual Fairly OddParents episode.

The Only Truthful Quality

  1. Good animation and voice acting as usual.

Trivia

  • The first episode where Poof is completely absent since his introduction in "Fairly Odd Baby" from Season 6 and this trend will continue in later episodes as well.
