”Space-Cadad” is the twenty-fifth episode in season ten of The Fairly OddParents.
Plot
The Squirrely Scouts go into space to plant a flag on unfamiliar terrain, hoping to achieve a special Squirrely Scout badge.
Why It Gets No Scout Badges
- The sudden switch to flash animation. Speaking of flash, it’s some of the cheapest you’ll ever see. The character redesigns on the other hand are also a step-down due to how rigid and stilted they look. The animation looks so terrible that it doesn't even feel like The Fairly OddParents and feels more like it belongs to a totally different show.
- Chester, A.J., Sanjay, and Elmer have been swapped out altogether for four other kids - Stuart, Kevin, Eric, and even Chloe herself, now that she is part of the scouts since “Girly Squirrely”.
- Very lazy plot padded with filler as well as the humor being too wacky. Like “Girl Squirrely”, there’s not much happening here other than whatever nonsense and randomness that the writers come up with to move the story forward.
- Mr. Turner acts like a complete buffoon to the scouts, such as calling them “whiny” and “weak”, not sharing with them, and nearly getting them killed.
- Predictable “and then the opposite happens” joke like usual. For example, Timmy says that as long as they have Cosmo and Wanda (disguised as backpacks), the scouts will be fine, only for Mr. Turner to throw them out for the sake of the writers showing how much they like to dumb him down, and then Cosmo and Wanda lose their wands for the sake of plot contrivance.
- Lazy ending where Timmy’s dad steals the copy of the Glorg’s “Purrfect Kitten” magazine and the Glorg angrily chases him and the rest of the scouts out of the Lance A Lotta castle.
The Only Redeeming Quality
- The title card is nice and ironically more appealing to look at then the animation itself.
- At least Mr. Crocker doesn't appear at all in this episode, especially considering how overused he had been in the series and that he had almost all of the screen time in the previous episode.
Reception
This episode currently has a 4.7 rating on IMDb.com.
