"Sun Scream"

Sun Scream is the first half of the tenth episode in the sixth season of The Powerpuff Girls.

Plot

The girls get the ultimate sunburn and must try to fight crime despite their UV damage.

Why It Got Sunburnt

  1. This episode is more or less a rip-off of the Ed, Edd n Eddy episode "Hot Buttered Ed".
  2. The episode's premise makes no sense, even by the show's standards. Sunburn, in reality, does not make you completely immobile.
  3. Plot hole: In previous episodes, the Girls have survived being dipped into acid, and have been exposed to nuclear explosions, which are both hotter and generate more UV radiation than a solar flare, and yet in this episode, a solar flare gets them sunburned and severely weakened as a result.
  4. The town is not sympathetic to the sunburned Girls - they laugh at them when they're sunburned. Though to be fair, they did think they were too cool to use sunscreen, so it was kind of warranted.
  5. The Professor's attempt to get suntan lotion on the Girls fails and he even gets made fun of. That just shows that said pair of girls does not understand the importance of sunscreen. Even when the Girls get sunburned, Bubbles states there was no way to avoid it.
  6. The scenes where the sunburned girls slowly move in agony struggling to get from one spot to the other or do anything drags on for way too long, and given that the girls constantly scream in pain in each scene, it can get very grating and annoying on the ears quickly.
  7. The Mayor calls the girls for help for an incredibly pathetic reason: to save him from a pair of con men who he got swindled by them due to his stupidity to fall for their ploy.
  8. The scene where the pair of con men are torturing the Girls is very frustrating to watch due to how pathetically weak they come off as. This is just silly.
  9. The disturbing and disgusting scene at the near end where the Girls' red skins peel off.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The ending was okay, even if the way the con men got defeated is a bit anti-climatic.
  2. It teaches us the consequences of not using sunscreen, even though it was horribly executed.
