The Great Battle III is a 1993 beat 'em up game, and is the sequel of The Great Battle II: Last Fighter Twin. It's a crossover with the Ultraman, Kamen Rider and Mobile Suit Gundam characters from these respective franchises.
Plot
F91, Great, RX, and Lore, who defeated Zanel, were on their way back to Earth, but on the way, a spaceship collided with a meteorite, and was sent to another world.
The four fall into a strange forest, and are taken to the soldiers of a nearby castle. After hearing about the situation, the king of the castle apologizes for the disrespect for the four, and feels destined to have emerged from heaven, and offers a consultation, and request. In this world, the wizard, Zanel, is trying to use monsters to attack people, and revive the sealed demon king dark brain, and the request was to have four people defeat Zanel. The king gives them four pieces of equipment, each with the attributes of a groundwater fire breeze, and one of the two split Elbrem mirrors needed to revive the demon king, and tells them that the other is enshrined in the village.
Wearing the equipment they were given, they embarked on a long journey to prevent the resurrection of dark brain and destroy Zanel's ambitions.
Why It Rocks
- The game is an improvement over the second game, in which these will be listed down.
- The controls are once again tight and responsive, but they are even better than in The Great Battle II: Last Fighter Twin since they are much more responsive, likely for the gameplay being more fun than the previous games.
- The story here is great, and it's even better than the previous games, mostly due to being much more developed, and expanded than the first, and second games, although it's not as good as the sequel, The Great Battle IV.
- You can now parry the attacks of your enemies. This is a massive improvement over the second game due to the fact that in that game there was no parry to do, and it was very problematic, for the difficulty. This is also a great thing for this game, due to being harder than the second game.
- Unlike the first two games, this one had fast-paced gameplay, that made the game not dull in comparison, even if these previous games were decent.
- Very fun gameplay, that is much better than in the second game, and is more fast-paced, as said before. In fact, this game is less boring than the previous games, if you don't like sluggish gameplay.
- Great soundtrack, that is once again incredibly catchy, and unforgettable. The music of this game is so good, that you will probably want to listen to it, for hours, or even dance to it. The music would improve even more in the sequels, with the exception of The Great Battle VI.
- Great graphics, that are a massive improvement, over its predecessor, despite also being good-looking, with very detailed scenes, and also, having a great color palette, the graphics are on par, with The Great Battle IV level of quality graphics.
- It's longer than the previous games, as this game takes at least an hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours, to beat.
- The difficulty is challenging, but fair, and more balanced, than its predecessor, although it can be way too hard at times.
- Awesome boss fights.
- The theme of the game is really great and a good change from the previous games, as here it's more like fantasy and action. The theme of the fourth game will be even better.
- Overall, it's a huge improvement, over its predeccesor and has fast-paced gameplay, an even better story, and the list goes on.
Bad Qualities
- Much like Super Double Dragon, the game can be way too hard at times, even in the very beginning of the game, although it's not really that frustrating for the first levels of the game.
- Some of the levels can be incredibly tedious, with some that are way too long, or have way too many enemies.
Trivia
- The currency for this game are coins, with the Banpresto logo, on them.
- The Banpresto mascot appears as a shopkeeper, and as the guy, who tells the player to go forward.
