2 Stupid Dogs is an animated television series created by Donovan Cook and produced by Hanna-Barbera Cartoons.

Plot

The show is about two unnamed dogs—neither of whom, as the title states, are very intelligent—and their everyday misadventures. The Big Dog tends to talk much less than the Little Dog. When the Big Dog talks, he usually talks about food. The animation style in the first season is unusual for the time: a very flat and simplistic style similar to the early Hanna-Barbera cartoons of the 1950s and 1960s, but with 1990s humor and sensibility. The wilder, more absurd second season has more fluid and exaggerated character animation.

Why It's Not Stupid

1. The Big Dog and The Little Dog are both funny and likable characters, along with many other characters that appeared on the show, like Mr. Hollywood, Cubby, Kenny Fowler, and Buffy.
2. Good animation, which is a big step up from the usual limited animation produced by Hanna-Barbera.
3. Great art style, since it uses the iconic thick-line style that was used for some Hanna-Barbera shows before, like The Flintstones (1960).
   • The character designs are also appealing, especially for the titular dogs. In fact, The Big Dog and The Little Dog both have very cute designs.
4. It's also known for launching the careers of Rob Renzetti (creator of My Life as a Teenage Robot), Genndy Tartakovsky (creator of Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack) and Craig McCracken (creator of the original Powerpuff Girls, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, Wander Over Yonder and Kid Cosmic).
5. Great voice acting by: Brad Garrett, Mark Schiff, Brian Cummings, Jess Harnell (Captain Hero from Drawn Together), Jim Cummings and Tony Jay.
6. Some clever and hilarious running gags, like when The Little Dog needs help from The Big Dog to scare the cat away.
7. Mr. Hollywood's line: "Isn't that cute, BUT IT'S WRONG".
8. It was followed by a revival of Secret Squirrel titled Super Secret Secret Squirrel which was also great, and even better than the original.
   • Even Secret Squirrel and Morocco Mole have made a cameo in the episode "Let's Make a Right Price".
9. Decent soundtrack, like the music used in the theme song.
10. "I want the toilet seat!"

Stupid Qualities

1. Some annoying characters, like Red.
   • Speaking of Red, most of the episodes involving her always have some bad endings (except for Return of Red).
   • Red also tries to feed The Big Dog and The Little Dog chocolate cheesecake in the episode "Red", which is bad since chocolate can kill or poison dogs.
2. Sometimes, The Big Dog and The Small Dog can sometimes cause some confusion that is more frustrating than funny.
3. It only lasted two seasons due to low ratings and because Ted Turner found the show to be a bad clone of The Ren & Stimpy Show.
4. Some use of innuendos, like the ones used in the episodes "Door Jam" and "At the Drive-In" (the latter being controversial enough to make the entire episode, along with the segments, banned).

Trivia

• Hanna-Barbera wanted to change out each season's middle segments with other reboots of their older shows, including Help!... It's The Hair Bear Bunch!, Cattanooga Cats, and Snooper and Blabber.
• The show's creator, Donovan Cook, would later go on to direct Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers in 2004.
