Story

When Stimpy finds a pair of hooves, Ren tells Stimpy that the Shaven Yak must have left them here last Yak Shaving Day. So then Ren and Stimpy set off on a journey to find the Shaven Yak.

Good Qualities

  1. To start with, this is one of the only good Ren & Stimpy game alongside Veediots! and Stimpy's Invention, which is great because most of the games in this franchise are mediocre to downright terrible.
  2. While this game isn't that challenging, it at least makes up for being a perfect game for a young audience. Since it is pretty accessible, decently slow-paced, and overall a fun game for them, it can also appeal to older audiences like teens and adults (although this might depend on the person).
    • The game at times can be pretty challenging, such as in the boss fights that can be hard if you don't know their paths, such as the first boss (that isn't that hard if you know), and the third boss. Or some of the enemies can also make the game challenging due to some of them being hard to dodge, especially on the Game Gear original version.
  3. Extremely tight and responsive controls; both Ren and Stimpy respond to your commands very fast, and the controls are very well programmed, since they stop directly when you stop using the d-pad, and they aren't slippery like most other games, which shows how well made this game is, and that is mostly something that this game won over the other Ren & Stimpy games that had mostly poor controls.
  4. This game is one of the only Ren & Stimpy games with a completely original story, and it isn't that bad. Instead of the save the world plot that was seen in countless games, this time, Stimpy found a pair of hooves, and both Ren and Stimpy go on an adventure to give them back to the Shaven Yak.
  5. Some hilarous moments in the game, such as the game over that had one of the best 4th wall breakings for a Game Gear game, in which Ren told Stimpy that this was just a game and that the player could retry the game if they wanted after Stimpy told them that there would be no more Shaven Yak days. This was a very original way to do a 4th wall breaking in a video game at the time.
  6. Decent soundtrack that sounds very catchy and there isn't anything wrong with it. The best example of a great track would be the rendition of the theme song that sounds really good and is much better than the one of Buckeroo$!.
  7. Great graphics that are very good for a Game Gear game, due to being faithful to the show art style and also for being colorful. It's art style is also amazing for this console, and it shows how good the graphics can look for a Game Gear/Master System game, even for 1993 standards.
  8. Fun gameplay that is a huge improvement over most Ren & Stimpy games (with the exception of Stimpy's Invention), since while it is slow-paced, it is a really fun game that is decently slow-paced to not make everything boring, and the game difficulty is well balanced.
  9. Great level design that offers plenty of levels designed with care, and the levels are unique on some occasions. This is also much better than the previous games that suffered from terrible level design and frustrating levels.
  10. The boss fights are very fun, despite being a bit too easy, as their paths are fun to learn, and when you know them, you can beat them easily. They are decently challenging at times, but in a good way. It is also one of the few Ren & Stimpy games to have boss fights.
  11. Both characters had their own life counter, which is a great idea since it would make you have 6 lives instead of 3, and if a character had no life left, then you could choose the other one. This is the same for the energy bar.

Bad Qualities

  1. The game at times can be very repetitive due to the fact that the gameplay doesn't change throughout the entire game, and this isn't helped by the fact by the fact that the game is slow-paced.
  2. It is way too short, but at the same time, a lot of levels are way too long. The length of the game is just 1 hour, though this makes this one of the longest games on both the Game Gear and Master System.
  3. There aren't any checkpoints in the game, so if you die in a level, you have to restart the level from the beginning. This can be very annoying later in the game.
  4. The extra lives aren't that present and are very rare.
  5. Misleading box art: While the box art itself is good, Ren and Stimpy wear a costume, but in the actual game we don't see them wearing it. This is pretty similar to the misleading box art of the Rocky and Bullwinkle games made by THQ.

Trivia

  • This game has a debug code: enter "D?S?A?", then hold the 1 and 2 buttons to move Ren or Stimpy Around using the D-pad.
  • This is the final Ren and Stimpy game on a Sega console.
    • At the same time, this is one of the only two games to be released on a Sega console, the other being Stimpy's Invention.
