Animation Errors are when designs or other animation elements do not match what they are supposed to be or seem quite out of place. They are more common in Flash and CGI animated TV shows due to somebody accidentally making a mistake during the time animating, though they can still appear in hand-drawn TV shows, albeit rarely. The most likely explanation as to why the errors occur is due to tight deadlines forbidding any fine-tuning.

Notable TV Shows with Animation Errors

  • Casper's Scare School: Several animation errors in season 1 due to the low budget, to the point that some characters can even be seen T POSING in some scenes.
  • Clash-A-Rama (the official animated web series based on Clash of Clans): Animation errors aren't so common, but the season 2 episode "Go Sparky Go!" has two animation errors with the Hog Rider as he gets up from the ground.
  • Danger Mouse (2015): Some scenes show him with his eyepatch on his right eye instead of his left eye, as shown in the example above. This was because some animators didn’t have the time to use the right head asset, so they flipped the head asset instead.
  • Danny Phantom: Known for its animation errors in some episodes. For example in the second episode (third in production order) called Parental Boarding, if you pay close attention to Sam's line ("Does he have to take off his pants and act like a dweeb? Or will either one do?") you'll notice that her eyes have 2 black dots in there. In the next episode, One of a Kind, When Skulker is prepared to throw Danny into the Ghost Zone, Danny's eye color reverts to blue for a brief moment despite having green eyes when in ghost form.
  • The Fairly OddParents: Has animation errors, albeit sometimes. However, the worst offender is in its tenth season, even before the sudden switch to the infamous cheap Flash animation.
  • Govorim Bez Oshibok (eng. Speaking without Mistakes; rus. Говорим Без Ошибок): It is notorious for its hilariously bad lip-syncing and plenty of animation errors due to its low budget nature, along with lackluster CGI graphics and character models.
  • Horrid Henry: It is somewhat infamous for this (at least in season 1), as animation errors can be seen frequently, while there has been less and less over time throughout the second and later seasons, they can still be seen once in a while; in fact, there's so many that they have their page on the Horrid Henry Wiki.
  • LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu (Pilot episodes-season 7): Some episodes show ninja suits swapped, such as in Ninjaball Run when Kai had his training outfit on when he was supposed to have his ZX outfit on. Another example was in Return of the Overlord when Lloyd had his ZX suit on when he was supposed to have his Kimono suit on.
  • The Loud House: It is well-known for animation errors (mainly in season 1).
  • Magical Girl Site: Also notable as one of the few anime to have animation errors like Nana's face always changing in every episode, with either her face being sad or just smiling.
  • My Little Pony (2003): The direct-to-video series suffers from many animation errors, such as characters switching places, mane and tail colors changing, and disappearing items.
  • My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic: Has been known for having many animation errors due to being animated in Flash. However, one character was seen cross-eyed due to an animation error/mistake, making her the most famous character, and giving her the name of "Derpy Hooves."
  • Oggy and the Cockroaches: Same as "SpongeBob SquarePants", except they're not as well hidden, mostly in seasons 1 and 3. An example of this is Marky's curly antennas, which are inconsistent throughout the entire show.
  • The Powerpuff Girls (2016): It has so many animation errors that even a blog was made pointing them out.
  • Sab Jholmaal Hai (eng. Everything is a Mess; hindi. सब झोलमाल है): It suffered and has a lot of mediocre animation errors in many episodes sometimes for a Hindi cartoon.
  • Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!: Has animation errors all over the place, which was typical for '60s and '70s television animation.
  • SpongeBob SquarePants: The show has plenty of animation errors (especially in season 1) to the point where videos about them were made, though they aren't very noticeable, unless if you have a keen eye. One noticeable error is seen in the episode MuscleBob BuffPants, where after hitting the pole and getting his fake muscles stuck under the glass of juice, SpongeBob is suddenly wearing his regular pants when he is wearing a blue speedo at the beach. Another example is where in New Digs, he runs to the Krusty Krab missing one of his shoes, but the moment he clocks in, he's shown to be wearing both shoes, then when he runs to the door he's missing one shoe, and then for the remainder of the episode, he has both shoes on and the missing shoe part becomes never brought up again.
  • The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!: Contains several visible animation errors due to being outsourced to a cheaper Korean studio, an infamous example is where Luigi has Mario's hat.
    • The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3: Because it was done on a low budget, the show has several visible animation errors, more than the previous one.
      • This also suffered with many audio errors including many characters having wrong voices, etc.
    • Super Mario World: The show suffers from the characters being off-model.
      • The show also suffers from some visible errors and audio errors (for example: In the episode "Rock TV", during the flashback, Mario's sideburns are missing when he faints after he and Luigi's outlandish phone bill for the "Speak to Santa Hotline", which presumably lets users talk to Santa Claus.)
  • Teen Titans Go!: Tons of errors like the characters' eyes disappearing, or frames where someone stands still like a statue or characters switching places from time to time, and characters’ emotions not matching what they are saying especially compared to the original.
  • Wayside: Some animation errors are sometimes shown and happen in many episodes (the Flash-animated episodes also occur with this).
  • Zip Zip: The show sometimes most commonly has many errors in each episode.
  • VeggieTales: The 90s episodes that were animated by Big Idea Productions had many animation errors including several hard-to-spot ones and sometimes obvious errors. There are three major examples of episodes having more animation errors than others around them;
    • The episode "God Wants Me to Forgive Them?!" is one of them to suffer from many animation errors/goofs, including objects clipping through walls and ground.
    • "The Wonderful World of Auto-Tainment", which was an episode made for the series's 10th anniversary, had a lot of animation errors including many notable ones, including where when Larry tells Junior what to do, the next slot on the Wheel of Veggies (where Jimmy Gourd should be) is empty, and many clipping errors.
    • "Sweetpea Beauty", animated by Hawaiian Animation Studios (which also animated It's a Meaningful Life) is the worst example, as it had lesser quality animation that at first could be easily mistaken for going for the 90s-style look. In the Pants silly song, Jimmy Gourd suddenly is yellow while he's normal orange in the main segment. There's also a scene where the mirror jumps in place and the castle walls become OLED black, or perfectly pitch black.
  • Mixels: The traditional animation episodes in 2015 and 2016 had many errors/mistakes that are noticeable.
  • Schoolhouse Rock!: Some animation errors happened for many songs (for example: On "No More Kings", When King George III looks at the audience during the line "That's called taxation without representation, and it's not fair!", George's crown turns white and then turns back to red when he laughs).
  • Meeow!: Some errors happen everywhere in the show (The episode "MaisieMac Loves Paris" was one of those to have too many animation errors such as this one).
    • Also, the show suffers from many characters sometimes being off-model.
  • Ed, Edd n Eddy: The show has many errors and goofs for this (for example: On "Quick Shot Ed", when the Eds say "It's Kevin!" Kevin's mouth moves, but no words come out).
    • Season 1 had many characters sometimes they are off-model and sometimes the outlines do not move and wobble.
  • Bubble Guppies: Has some errors/mistakes, especially in seasons 1 and 2.
  • The Amazing World of Gumball: Suffers from too many errors and goofs that were noticed on the show.
  • The Simpsons: This was one of the most popular animated shows with many animation errors and goofs to be noticed (an example on some many episodes is where Marge's necklace is miscolored white, like Lisa's).
    • The first season is the worst one to suffer many errors and sometimes many characters are shown to be off-model.
    • The season thirteen finale episode "Poppa's Got a Brand New Badge" is a little worse example of having many errors (for example: There is a noticeable black bar seen on the bottom during the shot of Edna meeting Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli).
    • Seasons 14-18 Digital coloring animation episodes are one of them to suffer many errors and goofs (for example: On the opening sequence for the season fifteen premiere episode/Halloween special "Treehouse of Horror XIV", Homer's legs are cropped off for some frames when he hits Bart and Lisa with a bat before being shot by Marge off-screen.)
  • Family Guy: The show was noticeable with many goofs and animation errors in the show.
    • The first three seasons are one of them to suffer this (noticeably on many season 2 episodes animated by Rough Draft Studios/Korea).
      • The first two seasons sometimes suffer with many characters being off-model due to the animation being produced by Film Roman.
  • Beavis and Butt-Head: Had many noticeable errors here and there sometimes, also suffers with many characters sometimes they're off-model and more rough (mostly the episodes animated by Plus One Animation and Rough Draft Studios.)
  • Arthur: Has many errors in many episodes (for example: in "Arthur's Tooth", Buster has the wrong colors as Arthur's when he smiles with one tooth missing this shot and on "Bleep!", a glass cup a background character was holding goes from cyan to blue-green.)
    • The first season of the show is one of them to have and suffer many errors and also suffers from many characters being off-model at times. Thankfully, by season 2, AKOM lessened the errors.
    • The last five traditional animated seasons (11-15) sometimes have many errors as even being animated by Animation Services Hong Kong Ltd. (the studio who animated Timothy Goes to School).
    • The last ten seasons (the flash animated seasons) also sometimes had many errors that happen (mostly for this until this was improved in season 20).
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987): During the first 7 seasons, the show was known for many animation errors like when the turtles had wrong bandana colors and/or wrong voices.
  • Rugrats: Many episodes have animation errors and goofs noticed (season 1 is one of these to suffer from this as animated by Wang Film Productions and many characters are at times off-model in this season.).
  • The Ren & Stimpy Show: The original series suffered a lot of animation errors, especially from Fil-Cartoons in Season 1, with the Stimpy infamously having black eye dots and Ren having black eyelids in the series' first episode (This was kept in by John K. because he found the errors hilarious).
  • Ren & Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon": Like the original series, APC also suffered animation errors, like Ren's nose being baby pink in a small shot and a line of a part of Stimpy's face disappearing at end of the episode Stimpy's Pregnant.
  • The Wacky World of Tex Avery: The show has numerous animation errors noticed (for example: in the opening, the top of Pompeii Pete's helmet disappears.)
  • Green Eggs & Ham: Suffers some cut corners errors at times.
  • Get Blake!: Too many animation errors at times and poor lip-syncing in the English dub due to the characters still syncing in French.
  • Sergeant Stripes (TV show): The show suffers too many animation errors noticed at times.
  • James the Cat: Some errors can be shown at times (for example: On "Lunch", James' chef hat disappears when he looks at the audience.)
  • Caillou: Has too many animation errors shown in many episodes (For example: In "Caillou's Not Afraid Anymore", there is a black frame around on the background of Mr. Hinkle's house when the narrator says that his house sure looks spooky and on "Big Brother Caillou", when Doris says "This is Rosie", her mouth does not move.)
    • The French dub of the show also suffers from poor lip-syncing due to the characters' mouths still syncing in English.
    • Season 1 is one of the worst offenders where characters are sometimes shown off-model at times.
  • Little Bill: Some errors can be noticed in the series (For example: On "Shipwreck Saturday" at the end, while Kiku and Little Bill are making the Moby Kite, Kiku contributes her necktie to be used for the kite's tail, but when we see them start to fly the kite, Kiku is wearing it again, yet the kite still has the tail.)
  • Dragon Ball Super: The first two story arcs which were based on the movies Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F' had many moments when characters were off-model.
  • Transformers: Energon: There are some animation errors in the anime including a run cycle of Optimus Prime (Grand Convoy) running along with a walk cycle of Optimus Prime and other Autobots.
  • The Transformers: Has suffered from an assortment of animation errors for 80s standards, Such as Optimus Prime having a missing faceplate, some Autobots or Decepticons having their logos mislabeled, several miscolorations, etc. These have been acknowledged by Hasbro, with the Ask Vector Prime page on Facebook calling them anomalies in time and space caused by various locations and events such as Dinobot Island from the titular two-parter, the destruction of Unicron in the 1986 movie, the Unicron Singularity in Cybertron, the Quintesson Time Window from "Forever Is A Long Time Coming", and the Harmony from the infamous "Carnage in C-Minor", the latter properly explaining why the episode had so many errors.
  • Bonkers (1993): There are countless visible animation errors at times on the show (i.e. coloring mistakes, layering slips, and occasions of characters popping in and out of frame).
  • The Shnookums and Meat Funny Cartoon Show: Some countless animation errors can be noticed and shown in many episodes.
  • Scaredy Squirrel: Some noticeable animation errors happen in many episodes.
  • Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart: Sometimes, many errors can happen and commonly occur in any episode.
  • Unikitty!: This has a lot of errors and mistakes commonly happening for LEGO standards.
  • The Magic School Bus: It suffers many animation errors in the series (for example: On "For Lunch", while Miss Frizzle and the class are entering the inside of Arnold, he is seen riding on the back of this in the bus.)
  • Stickin' Around: Has the most animation errors in cartoon history and most likely in every episode if not counted correctly.
  • Home Movies: The last three seasons of the show suffer from many errors at times due to being animated in Flash.
  • Clutch Cargo: Sometimes, while the characters are in a different room, it returns to the background along with this character that was already used.
  • Phineas and Ferb: It suffers too many animation errors on many episodes of the show. A notable error is where Phineas' eyes disappear for a single frame.
  • OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes: Suffers many errors commonly sometimes during many episodes, this happens here and there as noticed.
  • Gravity Falls: The show had even suffered too many errors/audio errors like when the characters' mouths/lips do not sync to the line or noises (this happens in any episodes when animated by Rough Draft Studios/Korea and some episodes when it was animated by Digital eMation).
  • The Tom and Jerry Show (1975): This has some animation errors in the show like Jerry losing his swimming trunks in one scene in "Beach Bully" and Tom's eyes turning from yellow to white in "Heavy Booking".
  • Dragon Tales: The show was the most to suffers too many animation errors at times and also suffers from audio errors (season 1 was one of this to suffer these; for example: On "Cassie Loves a Parade", Cassie's bow disappears and then reappears in some shots and on "Four Little Pigs", Zak and Wheezie's voices are heard when Emmy, Max, Ord, and Cassie are struggling on the destroyed stage after when Ord tries to blow one of the three pigs' house down while he was playing his saxophone.)
  • Gadget Boy: It has many animation errors on the show, and also suffers bad lip-syncing due to the characters' mouths still syncing in French on the English dub.
  • Codename: Kids Next Door: Suffers most goofs/errors on many episodes (for example: on "Operation U.N.D.E.R.C.O.V.E.R", Lenny's shoes are white instead of brown during on one shot.)
  • Little Bear: The show suffers most of the animation errors that can be shown and noticed in many episodes.
  • The Smurfs (1981): The show had common art and animation errors back in the early seasons: such as Papa's pants being miscolored white, animating a Smurf to the wrong voice, and/or odd proportions of the Smurfs' heads, separation of their usual conjoined eyes, limbs or bodies. Audio errors also occurred, for example:
    • In "The Magnifying Mixture", the parts where the other Smurfs get mad at Brainy Smurf for his mistakes and a giant Hefty Smurf coming back with Gargamel and Azreal weren't syncing correctly with the proper audio track.
    • In "Clumsy Luck", there were noticeably two Brainys saw at Clumsy's funeral, one giving a speech and another in the audience, listening.
  • Johnny Test: a few errors such as Susan having Mary's voice in "Johnny B.C." and "Johnny Degrees Below Zero" (the second aforementioned episode also had an error where Susan's beanie hat disappears), as well as "Johnny Double Coupon" having a scene where Susan and Mary set a water slide to save Johnny, they looked like two Marys, meaning Mary's model was used for Susan's.
    • The traditional animated/first-season episodes sometimes have many errors here and there, some characters also suffer from being off-model at times.
    • Also, the 2021 revival series has a lot of common animation errors even though it was still good.
  • Sabrina: The Animated Series: The show suffers and has many animation errors and audio errors at times.
  • Hey Arnold!: The show has many errors visible at times in the series (The first three seasons are one of those to suffer this.)
    • Season 1 also suffered from many characters sometimes they're off-model.
  • The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius: It suffers many animation errors like someone clipping through something, etc.
  • Stressed Eric: Suffers many animation errors and audio errors at times in the show (Series 2 also suffers this.)
  • Seven Little Monsters: The first season suffers a lot more animation errors than the second and third seasons as well (For example, at one point in the episode "Plooky", Three is wearing his normal outfit instead of his green suit and tie).
  • George Shrinks: Has suffered many animation errors in many episodes as with other Nelvana shows.
  • Boy Girl Dog Cat Mouse Cheese: Most of the episodes have the characters talking and the lip-syncing doesn’t match what they’re saying (due to the lips still syncing in French at the time; the French dub also suffers the bad lip-syncing).
  • Bluey: It was most one to commonly suffer many animation errors/goofs in any episodes.
  • Goof Troop: It has many animation errors in many episodes like with other Disney Afternoon shows.
  • Pac-Man (1982-1983 Hanna-Barbera animated series): Like The Smurfs and other older Hanna-Barbera cartoons, it suffers many animation errors on many episodes of the show.
  • Samurai Jack: The show has many errors that occur in the show mostly the first four seasons (for example on one episode, there is a cut on Jack's body on one shot as the camera tilts when he shocks).
  • Samurai Pizza Cats: Has some few animation errors for 90s anime standards.
    • The English dubbing also suffers some translating errors.
  • Cyborg Kuro-chan: Some errors can be noticed and happened in many episodes of the 1999 anime series.
  • Peep and the Big Wide World: Has many errors sometimes commonly in many episodes for any standards.
  • Nature Cat: Mostly has animation errors and audio errors that happened on many episodes sometimes for PBS Kids standards.
  • Max & Ruby: Was noticeable for commonly having many errors sometimes in many episodes for the longest-running flash animated Nelvana show (mostly in the first two seasons).
  • Astroblast!: Has suffered many errors/goofs for Flash animation standards.
  • Mona the Vampire: There are many errors that happen in the show on some episodes for Cinar standards.
  • The Little Lulu Show: The show has a lot of animation errors in many episodes (mostly the first two seasons) for Cinar standards.
  • 44 Cats: Suffers a lot of errors similar to other CGI shows that suffer some rendering errors.
  • Sunny Bunnies: Some errors can commonly happen here and there on any episode similar to any other CGI animated show that suffers from many rendering errors.
  • Pecola: It commonly sometimes has many errors like other CGI shows when sometimes has any rendering errors.
    • The Japanese dub of the show sometimes suffers from bad lip-syncing (due to many characters' mouths/beaks still syncing in English).
  • My Life as a Teenage Robot: Sometimes, it was common that it has animation errors that were noticed on the show as even being animated by Rough Draft Studios/Korea.
  • ChalkZone: It has suffered any errors found on many episodes, it also suffers with many characters being off-model at times.
  • Franklin: This most commonly has many animation errors in every episode for Nelvana standards.
  • Fishtronaut: Has some animation errors, especially on season 1, for example: there are episodes in which the one-time characters have black-bead eyes while the protagonists have sclera.
  • Dora the Explorer: It has many errors/goofs everywhere in the show noticed.
    • Early first-season episodes have also suffered from many characters being off-model at times (mostly commonly happens in the first two episodes "The Legend of the Big Red Chicken" and "Lost and Found" and happens for the reused animation from the said first episode in many episodes during the travel song until this was stopped in "Bouncing Ball" and "The Chocolate Tree").
  • Angry Birds Toons: Has a noticeable animation error where Chuck's crests split when the other birds are waking up in "Hiccups".
  • Rolie Polie Olie: Like with many CGI shows, some errors happen in the show like somebody's clipping through something, etc.
  • The Great Warrior Wall: Does commonly have any errors for a CGI Chinese show similar to other CGI shows that have rendering errors that happen.
  • Garfield and Friends: Played for laughs in the episode: "Mistakes Will Happen", which had tons of errors made intentionally, but Garfield only spotted three errors that were just nitpicked on his part.
    • Speaking of which, The Garfield Show had become notorious for its sometimes glaring animation errors. The most infamous error is this one where they put an unrendered scene in an actual episode (Land of Hold). Fortunately, this was later fixed.
  • Dooly the Little Dinosaur: The 1987-88 series suffers and has too many animation errors and sometimes many characters are off-model while the errors in the 2008-12 revival were still common.
  • Pound Puppies (1986): Commonly suffers animation errors happen on any episodes here and there for an obscure 80's cartoon.
  • Numberblocks: The earlier episodes have a lot of visual errors, there are also times when the animation can look lazy and weird in the earlier episodes, like this scene in "How to Count" for example.
  • Fireman Sam: Whilst animation errors were common in the first five seasons, they got worse in the CGI seasons, mainly in seasons 6-10 due to it being animated by Xing Xing Digital. One infamous example is in the episode "Floating Cart", which had one scene where Norman, Mike, Helen, and her van all disappear for half a second, as seen in this video.
  • Spider-Man (1967): While the animation is decent, this suffered alot of animation errors here and there, this also happens in the reused footages often in many episodes.
    • This also sometimes suffered audio errors, like when the character's lips sometimes is out of sync when they're saying, etc.
  • The New Fantastic Four: It suffered many animation errors by often in many episodes here and there, and as well also audio errors.
  • Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir: It has manly animation errors in seasons 3 ownards due to low-quality animation.
  • Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: Has a couple of noticeable animation errors, mainly during the first two seasons, such as in "Kaz Vs Cats" where a part of the background keeps reappearing and disappearing in both top corners in the scene where Kaz starts to chase the cats.
  • Tiny Toon Adventures: Has several animation errors during the first season, mainly on the ones animated by Wang, Kennedy Cartoons, and Encore.
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender: Have suffered many animation errors here and there in alot of episodes.
    • Legend of Korra: Also have suffered alot and many animation errors in any episodes to be noticed.
  • Juuni Senshi Bakuretsu Eto Ranger: The anime suffered sometimes with a batch of every animation errors which Shaft Animation Studios have done that.
